There really is NO true way to determine the DEFINITIVE list of sohh's greatest ...
A lotta cats build off other cats, that's the way the cycle works. Cats innovate off of what was previously laid down as a foundation ... Most if not all the cats on this board were whether they'd like to admit it or not influenced by another cats works in some way. But to just sit and typecast or down everyone in a particular era simply because you feel the " era " you are from was better is simply ... pointless.
The talent pool may not be as deep as it was in the " golden era " of sohh so to speak ( trust me i've done my research ) but that's not to say there haven't been cats after that era who couldn't or wouldn't have excelled or possibly dominated in it ... because there are ... Why doesn't someone just organize a sohh circa 2000 and prior vs sohh circa 2001 and beyond. 7 cats each squad ... there you'd have it. Good thread tho spitbricks...

That's the problem though. Some of the cats that have been here for years can't let go of the past. For some reason, anyone who wasn't from the oh so glorious "golden era" of sohh gets no props. I mean, sure...I guess newer cats can't be "legends" so to speak, cuz true greatness comes with longevity BUT imo, there's a certain elitism going on. There are some good peeps on this site RIGHT NOW that don't get credit...do we all suck? Hell no, but older heads will always identify with the peeps they came up with, and that's cool. What's not cool is keeping those people on a pedestal and not giving any shine to up and coming writers on this site.

Or, if we all do suck so terribly (newer cats), then y'all should be giving some constructive criticism...encouragement...something to help this place get back into a golden age. through out history there are points where we are lucky enough to be graced by a plethora of talent in a given area...in this medium, it was like 98-00...that's just fact, what we did was something special. i'm talkin cypha posts with EVERYONE in the forum posting til it's like 500 replies or better, battles with other sites, huge tournaments that went on without a hitch for weeks, poetry that won awards offline, kids going around to other boards and being praised as the best THERE and callin SOHH home, we were a power house, ya'll not but wanna complain cause we was and ya'll won't do what it takes to get to where we were, and instead of takin it to heart and gettin all wet between the legs, do something that stamps your place in the memories of people.


but you fellas would sooner forget just to get your shine, than actually earn it. and what's actually hendering shyt is the fact that 98-00 was all about REALLY rhyming, not stickin to text, not being the best @ text, and most of the best pushed for the audio forum to prove that we could do it on the mic and not just in text...ya'll wanna stay in this shyt and want props for stayin....nah...no one's payin attention to text, get in audio if you want some props

Bricks said it at the beginning. I'd be battling 6 and 7 cats at a time EVERY DAY FOR ABOUT ALMOST A YEAR including 80 percent of the guys on everyone' list and lost to very few of them while doing it.

Im not denying that Merc commited multiple orgy's when it came to battling in audio. What it was...Merc was one of the first kats to really have the capability to do audio battles. Battlers were still asking questions on how to get cool edit cracks and how to do mix downs. I dont think Merc was ever really excelling to the point where he was the Oh Mighty King of the Audio Battle. He just had the right equipment. If you go to war with nuclear capabilites against an army thats has a secret weapon of sling shot and blow darts you're sure to win. IMO i think thats how Merc got most of his W's here.

actually I didn't. I had a 50 buck mixer, 50 buck mic, and cool edit. that's it. I just had a really good soundcard (delta 44)

but this was text dude. I was raping nigguhs in text before I even started doing audio at all.

I was around and getting props from jigga (used to have his celly number) and dj yella back in the day as the best battler in text on here. That's just what that was.

sometimes I'd battle 10 cats a day and wouldn't lose a single one. Then in audio it was kind of the same.

I had to stop battling completely cause I was drained man. Sheeit takes alot out of you when you're spreading yaself so thin

but as far as not being a "wow battler?" I've battled some of the best and won on RAPMUSIC.COM too. Heck I was a finalist on there and over one year I went like 15 and 2. I beat ill chris and lost to deacon the villain by like 2 votes in one battle. I beat session too. Woo child and a host of others.

I'm simply just trying to do my gospel album now. If it sells, it sells. I simply just love hip hop and it's not about money no more. About getting my message out there

Now as far as battling goes? I'm prolly about a b. I'm kind of witty and say a few dope things, but I can't freestyle and I'm just not cutthroat with it the way I used to be when I first started doing it cause I just don't enjoy it that much anymore

Why haven't I blown up? To be honest it's because I work on comps and just never put out an album. I was going to retire from rap completely and then I decided to do gospel instead.

Then on top of that I have two sons that I spend time with and that's alot more important that jumping onstage and rapping. Up until November, I was working 10 to 14 hours aweek as a level III computer technician, but I'm going back to school in january to finish my degree to become a computer teacher.

I post on the net in my free time. I'm not online that much anymore. I'm in the process of setting up an office studio within the next six months and focusing on my graphic repair and computer company. I've turned down a few deals. I've been in videos. I had cameos and people said I was crazy to walk away from it, but I am back in rap for one reason. To get the message I wnat to convey from a spiritual aspect on this quad cd I'm about to start writing for with a deal on the table from 101d.com that I haven't even signed. Contract been in the file cabinet for 2 years.
