View Full Version : Shoegaze???
Anyone else listen to this genre on the heavy? Its by far my fav style of music, I'm a straight sucker for huge ass reverb and getting caught in sprawling melodies. It also seems to have a ****load of emotion in the best works. usually has some vicous ass climax in it somewhere, I love it:guilty:
bands of this ilk...
My Bloody Valentine
Slowdive
Ride
Asobi Seksu
Pacific UV
Smashing Pumpkins(siamese Dream)
stuff that sounds like this...

Loveless is one of my favourite albums of the nineties and MBV are by far the best band to come out of Ireland.

Not sure if Spaceman 3/Spiritualized count, more ''space rock'' I guess, but any reason to post this song:

Try M83 - Dead Cities, Red Seas & Losts Ghosts
Or Nathan Fake - Drowning In a Sea of Love. Sort of instrumental Shoegaze.
Or The Horrors - Primary Colours which has some big shoegazey hints.
If you're looking for some more recent stuff. And assuming that you haven't listened to them, but you probably have if you like Shoegaze a lot.
havent heard nathan fake but i have m83 discog and that horrors. will def check out fake

Some of Yo La Tengo's stuff is quite shoegazey. "Deeper Into Movies" for instance, and a lot of Painful
Jesus & Mary Chain as well.

IMO these are the best shoegaze albums
My Bloody Valentine-Loveless
pretty essential listening it's what sparked the whole thing, kinda hard to get into though

Slowdive-Souvlaki
I personally think this is the best shoegaze record. Incredibly pretty and dreamy, 10 perfect songs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0LIO138Z-A
Slowdive-Just for a day(remastered)
Not as good as souvlaki, but such raw emotion on this record its incredible in its own right.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVY9p1IHops
Asobi Seksu-Citrus
Dream pop slash shoegaze. crazy guitar work and melodies on this, really easy to get into. one of my favorite albums period.

Have a Nice Life-Deathconciousness
Doom metal esque shoegaze, superior sh1t. Bloodhail is probably the best song to come out in 2008 no ****ing lie.

A place to bury strangers-self titled
Loud as ****, some really good bangers on this. noise rocky
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFa4a56j52o
Hartfield-True color, True Lie
Japanese shoegaze outfit. Does nothing all that different, but their execution is so on point it doesn't matter.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtvJRMRQAps&feature=related
Alcest-Souvenirs d'un autre monde
most instrumental sh1t from France. mixes metal and shoegaze very well.

Silver is probably my favorite ep from this last decade
Ride
Nowhere IMO is the best shoegaze album, period

haven't listened to silver yet...
Nowhere...don't get me wrong its dope, but I guess I feel the whole "wall of sound/haze" shoegaze than what ride went for. Its good but I see me putting albums like Loveless, Souvlaki and even newer sh1t like Citrus over it. BTW I personally think Souvlaki is the goat gaze album, but loveless is very close. Vapour Trail is a flawless track tho...
Also everyone who likes shoegaze just a bit owe it to themselves to check out and listen to these lesser known albums.
Coaltar of the Deepers-Newave
(Pure dopeness, I really am having a hard time not putting this right below Loveless as the third best gaze record ever. It is experimental, flows flawlessly, not a bad track and has the best cover of soon ever lol. Jap Vocals but they are pretty good. Listen to this. matter of fact here. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V0QIXZDM :smoker:)
The Fleeting Joys- Despondent Transponder
(Sounds like My bloody valentine follow up to loveless real talk. I was listening to this like:unsure: cuz I was unsure if I should like such blatant biting)
Pacific UV-Longplay 2
(Nice postrockish gaze. Has about a few phenomenal tracks in alarmist, and need.)
Pooma-Persuader
(Trip hop Shoegaze, really fukking good.)
Resplandor-Plearmar
(outfit from peru. Robin Guthrie produced it. very good.)
Sweet Trip-Velocity:Design:Comfort
(IDM and Shoegaze . really nice effort)
And Blonde Redhead is good:

Yeah 23 is probably one of the top songs of the the last decade imo. 23 is their safest album but I still think its their best. The earlier stuff does have some ill tracks but isn't really gaze per se. They were too busy trying to be sonic youth for a long time, until they came into their own.

great way to start an album
THE 101

You should checkout Deerhunter. Some of their stuff is very shoegazey, especially songs like "Dot Gain" & "Vox Celeste"
Deerhunter is legit, I only like the gaze half of that record though if I remember.
Anybody heard slowdive's unreleased material? Its some really dope sh1t.
