Never heard of this group till I looked at Blueprint 3 discography and saw Luke Steele from Empire of the Sun. Interesting name, did some research (ie Wikipedia and Youtube).

Only listened to this one song
"Walking on a Dream"...... I like the fact their showing Shanghai's skyline......Anyway, this first song I heard was pretty nice... I'm checking out this first album.

Yeah, I thought dude with the white makeup across his eyes was just doing it for a song or two.....that mofo is serious with it....definitely streaks of "flaming" there.......lol. If they would tone that shiit done some........Every single video I've seen is unexplainable too, which is not a bad thing.

I can't front though, these two songs here rock in that MGMT kinda way.

"Standing on the Shore"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDOIi27AgFk&feature=channel
"We are the People"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR8b0NuMQKs

Even this little instrumental diddy is decent
"Country"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7s7cvnYdtE

Overall, the album Walking on A Dream
has 4 songs I like, which include the ones I've posted. 4 out fo 10 ain't bad I guess. Maybe they can improve the next album for my stylistics and take off that makeup too. I get the artistry but damn. Not bad debut release I think.

Yes the second half of the alnum isn't as good as the first (pretty much mirroring MGMT's release) but they got some tunes. The problem is they switched up a little too much for the second half. Other than that, grab the first few songs (and to the poster above I love Country as well) and you're set.

So your saying its watered down alternative rock music. Trying to say I'm not keeping it real?? You saying they the T-pain of alt-rock???? :guilty:

Lol.....regardless its good music. On the othe end of the musical spectrum, could you say its also rock-centered electro-pop?? Something i never listen to, so the sound they are making is a happy medium. Also, I would argue that MGMT has a little more funk style in there music.

But I'm glad you put it that way, because it makes me realize why I wouldn't hear this group or MGMT on the rock (contemporary/alternative) radio stations.

Explain what you mean by alternative music. If you mean Alt Rock, they're clearly not that. I wouldn't call Cut Copy or Empire of the Sun alternative.

Either way, good music is good music. Empire of the Sun is pretty cool, and I like Cut Copy, whatever you want to consider them.

the point is that theyre NOT alt music, its just for people who think they are branching their horizons when its just new pop music

No, they make good pop music because they've always been pop musicians. The music is classified as electro-pop. In what world are they considered alternative?

For those who don't know Empire Of The Sun are like a supergroup in Australia - the singer with the makeup, Luke Steele, is the frontman of the Sleepy Jackson. Nick Littlemore is a dance musician with the duo PNAU. It's pretty much a side project for the two of them (or maybe not anymore, who knows?). The visual aspect is influenced by acts like Adam and The Ants (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kings_of_the_Wild_Frontier) and the music is just straight pop. Some of it is cheesy but it's quite a good album with some brilliant moments like We Are The People.

If you like this kind of stuff check out PNAU, Ladyhawke & Van She. Australia's electro-pop scene is crazy right now.

*sigh*

I said they are a pop band however certain people listen to them only because they seem "alternative". Its a post modern thing.

What's post-modern about it? They don't seem any more alternative than Lady Gaga.
