View Full Version : Yo I think I'm messin my back up doing power cleans/dead lifts

I know all about proper form when power cleanin' and dead lifting, squat position, back straight, shoulders out going going up, etc., but I always mess up a lil bit due to having pretty bad posture. Sometimes my back just inherently bends, even with those big-ass posture belts.
Now I'm tryna fix up my form cause now my back is a lil' sore...It's not like I threw it though. So what would be a good way to go about form improvement? All I can think of doing is lowering the weight....

yeah, lowering the weight sounds best and of course....proper form. I see far too many people in the gym using improper form on many exercises. It'll only hurt your gains/health in the long run

i helped my deadlifts by focusing more of the strength out of my glutes rather than my lower back, just by looking a couple degrees above horizon(think of how a servicemen looks when hes in formation) and when keeping this position you can subconciously keep yourself from arching your back
thats what ive always done

This is exactly what I've been doing, and it has helped a lot. I still get a lil' nervous during dead lifts, but I get 'em done.

i think the problem most people have is they are afraid of plateaus.
you dont always have to go bigger and heavier. once you get to a solid size its healthier to do the same range of weights and just change up the work outs(this also will help joint health, and injury resistance)
i train myself so that im always in fighting shape, i havent really tried to bulk up anymore considering 190 lbs @ 5'9" is big enough imo
another thing, dont get caught up in "max" rep weight... its better to be able to lift a weight 10 times than lift some heavy non-sensical number once(unless youre a football player)

Good advice. It's OK to plateau, the bigger picture is that you're exercising. I don't plan on lifting much more than I am now, just at higher reps
