I'm not completely obvlious, but I've just never actually done it before. I hope to do it by early next year & hope to purchase about a 2005 Cadillac Deville/DTS (or older). Think i could get that for $10K more or less in great condition?

i dont know much about cadillacs, but i suggest u look on craigslist.
dealers are ripoffs, they usually have problems or some type of bad history but try to cover it up.
they also would sell the car for 1-3 thousand more then u would find it for from a person.
and usually auctions are not place to go for cars.
the only type of ppl i know that would buy cars from there are the ones that buy them and build them back up to sell. grimey business i tell u

so i suggest u look for someone who owns it on craigslist..

Carfax aint ****, the price you are looking for is good go with some dealer(who is a friend) and mechanic to an auction if it is less than 4g's dont go to an auction go straight to craigslsits, but for your price criagslist or an auction is good, just make sure you have somebody who knows cars like a muthasucka

Yea, if i go to an auction i'm gonna try my best to use the dealer my friend went with, and i've read that it's best to go with somebody who knows cars to death. A lot of things to check on before bidding on it. I'm cautious as hell anyway.

I didn't really think of Craigslist, but it's not a bad idea. One quick look, and i found something cool already: http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/cto/1261645808.html

last two cars I bought were certified pre owned from dealers. that means no monkey business with the car being a lemon. sh*t had all the maintenence done, and the dealer gave me the carfax. and I was able to get a pretty good price. even my credit union was suprised when I told them how much i paid.

ALWAYS check the carfax

yep. u can even make the dealer pay for it. legit dealers have them on hand.

I am trying to purchase my boyfriend a car for his birthday and does this sound to good to be true...I think she is trying to get me

Thanks for being interested in buying my 2005 Acura TL 3.2 ,automatic transmission, white.Only 60,955 miles, beautiful condition in and out. Paint shines ,zero dings/dents,no accident. Non-smoker,always garaged and covered. It comes with all the documents needed for registration. The title is clear.
To save both of our time I'd like to make everything clear at this point, I am selling this vehicle because I need money fast as I have to meet a mortgage payment deadline so this transaction must be completed fast as time is my main priority, the book value for this vehicle is more than what I'm asking for it now , but I'm willing to sell it for this price for immediate payment so before we proceed with any arrangements I must ask you to confirm that you have a real interest in this vehicle and the necessary funds to make this purchase readily available. The price that I'm asking for the vehicle is US $ 2,750.00, this price includes the door to door shipping, handling and insurance fees for shipping within the continental US. You will have 5 days for inspection and possibility for a refund policy.

The transaction will be fully under eBay's surveillance.I believe this protects both buyer and seller and it's the right way to do this.I'm a serious person and I prefer to deal only with a serious buyer.
So if you decide to buy my vehicle or need further information please get back to me as soon as possible.
I look forward to hear back from you soon.
Thank you and have a great day,

The transaction will be fully under eBay's surveillance, giving us both security and insurance that nothing will go wrong. They will be the 3rd, objective party involved in the transaction. This way you will actually pay for the vehicle after you will receive and test it, because eBay will hold the funds and release it to me only after you accept and confirm the delivery. After the vehicle reaches your address you will have 5 days to test it. Within this period you have to decide if you purchase it or not. If you decide to take it you will have to contact eBay and let them know that, so they can release the payment to me. If you won't like it you will have to ship it back to me within the 5 days and eBay will refund you. The shipping back will be done on my own expense, but I am sure this will not be the case.
If you decide to buy the vehicle please provide me me your full name and the address where you want the vehicle to be delivered and I will initiate the transaction with eBay. You will receive all the transaction details from them.
Looking forward to doing business!

Who the hell sells an Acura for less than 3000 and she is paying for the delivery and insurance. Am I dealing with a crackhead is this legit?

get someone who is very familiar under the hood and what not to go look at it. sometimes people just have to get rid of their sh'it for whatever reason.

She said we will be doing this with ebay(found the car on craigslist) as a surveillance... and that I don't have to pay until I get the car and have five days for a refund:dry:

every option has a trade off
dealer--->priciest ...but most legal coverage under lemon laws and full disclosure and some do offer warranties

person--->good price..but as is ..so it is a good idea to HIRE a mechanic as a consultant..i do this myself for people from time to time...we know what a good engine should sound like if the car has been repainted or rebuilt recently and we can spot those little details that show lack of maintenance eg overabundance of aftermarket parts in a 2005 deville is a bad sign

auction--->Cheapest ..but be prepared to shell out some $$$..most of the cars i have seen and bought at auctions have needed major work
so before you bid factor in the cost rebuilding the motor or transmission(or occasionally both)so about $1000 or so and add that to the price and you should definitely get a consultant to help you reduce the chance of buying a money pit

so where should you shop..depends..how deep are your pockets..do you have someone who knows their sh!t willing to help you look...do you have a mechanic who will do heavy repairs for a reasonable price..how much patience do you have

RUN.. its a scam...Go to Ebay motors and see for yourself..the escrow only protects you if you buy the car ON Ebay motors if you wire money through paypal she will cash out and disappear

Carfax aint **** it's still useful, you have an idea how many people owned the car for how long what the mileage has been, if it's been salvaged, if there's been any accidents (if reported) etc... it's a nice tool...

Aelyas en passant made some great points too...

my best advice to you, take a mechanic with you to any of those places or someone who is very knowledgeable about cars... do some research, i'm pretty sure there's a message forum dedicated to the car your looking for look there too...
