I can't find any fuel tank straps for my 91 thunderbird. I've been looking for days now. Shyt is getting to be a pain. I can't even find any online. All the places sell them up to the 88 model year. Then it is like they disappear. I was gonna hit up a junk yard today to get something temporary until I can find some new ones. You know where I can get some? Or do they only come with the fuel tank itself?

i feel you on this one
they come with new fuel tanks
you can try junk yards but the ones you find there are usually too rusty
i went to one of the steel stores that sell sh!t to contractors and they gave me steel bands FREE
you know its a 3/4 inch band of steel they use to strap stuff to pallets
all i had to do was cut it to size and drill holes in it
so if you know anyone who works in a warehouse ask around that stuff is perfect

not enough data
4 cyl or v 6
turbo or non turbo
are you willing to do whateva it takes (like weld the heads for NOs) [cut your hood for a ram air intake]
so
what are you workin with now..

4 cyl. Stock. Im not willing to cut my hood. I would just like a plain looking car that happens to vroom. I plan on givin this car to a family member for his first car but would like to put some sh1t under the hood before i do so.... If i can do so cheap i would like some kinda range price wise.

If it's an auto you're out of luck because Honda autos are shyt to begin with. They won't hold much more power over stock.
If really want to be cheap, buy a cheap nitrous kit, throw a 100 shot on it. I'm not guaranteeing that you'll have an engine after a couple of hits but you asked.

Yeah I was up under like 15 birds today. All rusted out. I used to work at a steel plant. I'll try that out and see if that works. Thanks for the idea.
Btw how much would you charge to replace an exhaust manifold?

told you...plus the steel bands im taking about are stronger and more rust resistant than stock straps ,dont be afraid to double them up for safety if need be ...dont want to lose a tank on the road.
...a v8 and a 91 at that so plenty of rust and some bolts will have to be drilled out and retapped you lookin at 4 hours at best 6 at worst so about $200
why you asking..??

yeah, if he plans on getting a little bit serious he should start with the tranny first. the 6th gen tranny like most auto honda trannies is dog doo, mainly for the following two reasons:
a. Differental bearings were made from substandard parts
b. 2nd gear clutch pack does not receive proper lubrication.
4 cyl. Stock. Im not willing to cut my hood. I would just like a plain looking car that happens to vroom. I plan on givin this car to a family member for his first car but would like to put some sh1t under the hood before i do so.... If i can do so cheap i would like some kinda range price wise.

15. OK, so the accord really isn't that slow.....but I want to make it FASTER!
There are seveal options.
a. 3.5L swap using the accord intake, fuel injectors and heads. This will put you above the Comptech supercharger with about 260hp. This will give you slightly more low end but due to the intake valve size, it's still pretty limited. This is by far the easiest and cheapest swap as all that is required is the short block.
b. Forced induction via Supercharger or Turbo.
c. The bottle (NOS)
d. frankenstine motor built from various honda V6 parts as almost all of the J series motors use the same block and mounting points.
The major problems you will run into with the accord is the lack of the ECU's ablity to adapt to the new setup (lack of knock sensor) and the weakness of the auto trans (see above for solutions). The fastest 6th gen Accord happens to the the 1998 LX-V6 coupe since it is not loaded down with a lot of extras like moon roof and leather seats. In each year the LX-V6 is still the fastest but they are not as fast as the 1998 model due to the increased weight thanks to the addition of traction control, expansion of the abs system, etc.
make some friends with peeps in your local Honda scene and you should be able to find a reasonable shop where everything can be done relatively dirt cheap.

good news and bad news ..turbo kits for accords are cheap and easily available
go to ebay you can get one for $600 or so
bad news the stock exhaust cannot handle the increased airflow so you may have to upgrade the whole system from manifold to muffler
and since you live in cali you need a high performance california legal catalytic converter or youll never pass emissions so budget another $400 for that them the muffler and some pipes youre looking at another $300
theres other costs like tires because stock 185 mm tires will slip too easily you will need at least 205mm tires but you should go wider which could mean new rims if the stock steel rim is too thin so about $600
put aside about $2000 on the low end {if you do the work} because there is other stuff like nuts bolts, wires, clamps you will need
:afro: yeah its a big project but when you hit the gas pedal and feel the g forces it will be worth it

this is what i would do pick up a used v6 motor from a junk yard rebuild it get a manual transmission for it and some nice thick wheels

I was seeing if it would be cheaper to replace the manifold or have the bolt restudded. The bolt broke off in the hole so I was seeing if it would be less trouble to replace the manifold or just torch the bolt to remove it.

if you got the manifold off just drill the bolt and tap it (should take about 45 min) ...unless you are an ace with a torch and you can get the bead on the right spot ..if that goes wrong you will screw up the mating surface or worse deform the manifold then your sh!t will never sound right

I don't trust my skills with a torch enough to try it. My boy say he the man and he can do it without pulling it out. I might just go with the safe bet and pull the damn thing out and save myself some possible headaches.

famous last words .... ive been welding for years and i wouldnt go near a broken bolt with gas ....its just not precise enough ...id go in with a wire fed or stick welder (wire preferred) ..put a bead on the broken bolt ... tack it to the thread end of a good bolt ...wait till it cools then slowly ease it out with a ratchet
ive done that on cylinder head bolts ..works well but you have to be careful not to tack the bolt to the block.... so watch the heat

good idea..i forgot about all the flammable oil in the sump and the gas lines and that could probably fail explosively besides gas has one drawback ..,...control
too little heat= weak ineffective weld
too much heat = broken bolt melts and turns into a rivet
youre always safer just drilling...get some good titanium carbide bits [not the cheap stuff]and a good corded hammer drill you will be surprised how much steel you can cut through

sorry man i almost missed your post
Yeah thats the one thing i dont do unless i absolutely have to is tranny rebuilding for 2 simple reasons
1.you need a machine shop to have all the specialized tools calipers micrometers..etc plus they can test it outside the car you cannot
2.it takes alot of time especially going through the manuals for specs tolerances and clearances
$500 is an really good deal for a full rebuild(inc parts),i wouldn't think twice man i pay $600 to my rebuilder
think about it this way
1 rebuild kit for honda $200
manual $ 40
labor rebuilding(min 12 hrs @ $30/hr)=$360(this may take you alot longer)
total =$600
plus if you lack experience you may screw up so add the cost of a new tranny , a tow truck and a pissed off girlfriend/wife  stuck on the freeway with you
its just not worth it
pay the rebuilder
ps are you sure its the bearing

Yep, its the input shaft bearing. I checked with every single honda forum, googled the hell out of the symptoms and it all points the input shaft bearing.
It's a certain noise of rattling I hear when the clutch is engaged (Left alone). It goes away when I push down on the clutch. And you hear a certain nasty sound when you're going in low speeds/RPM.
I don't think it requires a complete rebuild because other than the bearing, the tranny is fine. It shifts fine, no grinds, no slips, actually performs better than all of my prior manual trannys. Clutch is fine too.
This shop is charging me $475 for labor alone because you need to take apart the whole transmission. The actual bearing is only freaken $30 directly from Honda.
I'm gonna look around other shops to see if I can find a cheaper place.

ITS A MANUAL
all the advice i gave you was for automatics
youre right $475 is steep for a manual ...thought you were talking automatic (manuals trannies are great easy to open and rebuild)
man you can do this, just go to a tool rental store and rent a good tranny jack the so you dont have to lift sh!t plus you work on the tranny while its on the jack.
if you do it right ,get the car on a good high ramp/jackstand and use the tranny jack right you wont lift more than 25 pounds

YOU CAN DO THIS............... remember
rent a top of the line tranny jack http://www.germes-online.com/direct/dbimage/50118617/Transmission_Jack.jpg
get the car as high up as you can so you can at least sit under it (safely)
do just these two things and your back and wallet will be safer

Its fairly easy if you get the right one designed specifically for your car that way you dont have to make any major modifications.i have worked on a couple of legends believe me there isnt any extra room under that hood for modifications.
with basic skill and tools it shouldn't take more than an hour.
so it can get a little spendy about $200-250 to get the right intake but it will save you a lot of time and effort.
as for batmobile the cold air thing will only increase your high end torque you will not notice it at low speeds .
to be a true :cape: you should consider turbo charging,or supercharging
K & N filters are good  way better than stock i have one ride that has a K & N and im so impressed i will put one in the other soon.Is it the best
....im not sure there are other manufacturers who supply high end racing brands(bmc ,injen etc) but k & n is by far the best value

A friend of mine told me the cold air intake would save me on gas and have the engine run smoother. The batmobile talk is just cuz i'ma paint her black and put in hyper white headlights. I'm gettin ready to tune her up so thanks for the K&N info, i'ma throw that and some Iridium plugs in there. I've been using Mobile 1 but have you tried Castrol Edge? I've really wanted to hear some reviews on it.
How tough would it be to Super charge it though? Wouldn't it mean a new engine or could I just change Idler Pulleys or something? This Legend has a nice VTEC in it already.

What about what the gentlemen said earlier about changing the honda engine for a 3.5L. Would that cost more or less then this procedure you gave me. Would that swap include a new trans also.
Secondly what is your opinion on turbo charging. Is this endeavor more or less expensive then swapping the engine.

it wont necessarily help you save on gas, but there will be a noticeable difference in your gas millage. the cold air does as its named. it sucks in air away from the engine bay which is cooler. A CAI allows for better airflow (and what is a motor, an air pump) and the ability to pull cooler, denser air from somewhere other than the engine bay..
If you increase the efficiency of the "pump" you get more "power" and a side benefit can often be better mileage, because the pump is working less against the restrictive nature of many stock intakes.
but the biggest change will be the sound of your car. you'll actually hear the air getting sucked in through the intake :king: now if your aspirate that with a turbo, sh'it will sound just like a Boeing on the ground.
the only downside and this is probably the only one, is hydrolocking. this occurs when water gets sucked into the engine and seizes it up, as you know water cant be compressed...costly shi't. but this can easily be prevented by getting a water shield and using common sense. Don't drive your car into water deeper than the lowest lug nuts on your wheels, or about 8-10 inches deep.

15. OK, so the accord really isn't that slow.....but I want to make it FASTER!
There are several options.
a. 3.5L swap using the accord intake, fuel injectors and heads. This will put you above the Comptech supercharger with about 260hp. This will give you slightly more low end but due to the intake valve size, it's still pretty limited. This is by far the easiest and cheapest swap as all that is required is the short block.
.
personally, I'd go engine and tranny swap before doing any boosting. when you change the cars aspiration, pretty much all of the cars properties change. things like compression ratios, the air-fuel mixture, wear and tear on the pistons, you'll need bigger valves etc
one thing you really need to think about first is the condition of the motor. how many miles are on your car? if the motor has any substantial wear on it (like 50k+ miles) it will probably need a rebuild before you turbo it.
a turbo puts a lot of strain on a motor because it basically pressurizes your engine to force more air and fuel to burn. if you have a lot of miles on it, some parts of your rotating assembly and valvetrain may become slightly loose, and it will amplify quickly with a turbo, turning your engine into a few-thousand dollar grenade.
basically, just go with the all motor set up, its a lot better than dealing with the ramifications of boosting it from the get go. plus you wont have to deal with any turbo lag.
personally, I'd go engine and tranny swap before doing any boosting. when you change the cars aspiration, pretty much all of the cars properties change. things like compression ratios, the air-fuel mixture, wear and tear on the pistons, you'll need bigger valves etc
one thing you really need to think about first is the condition of the motor. how many miles are on your car? if the motor has any substantial wear on it (like 50k+ miles) it will probably need a rebuild before you turbo it.

Is that going to be a problem when im moving from a 4cyl to a 6. Secondly, do these mods effect the cars resell value? Will the next owner have to sell the car privately.

if a reputable shop that knows what their doing does your swap, you'll be fine. these mods usually increase the resell value. O.E.M parts add value to the car.

Took you all day to respond to me with 1 sentence. Bruh. Thanks i guess.

how does it move? when you're parked or when you're driving?
What kind of car?
Check your coolant.

Add more coolant or water. If it goes up and down when the car is idle, ex. when you're at a stop or red light...its most likely your coolant level.
If you see it going towards the "H" and you rev it by giving gas and it goes down, its definitely your coolant level.

wow
you should get a dime who can help with the work
i love greasy girls but they are so rare
What about what the gentlemen said earlier about changing the honda engine for a 3.5L. Would that cost more or less then this procedure you gave me. Would that swap include a new trans also.
Secondly what is your opinion on turbo charging. Is this endeavor more or less expensive then swapping the engine.
swapping is easier,but the 3.5 motor is a 8th generation motor it probably wont fit in your ride{the mounts would be way too different}
there is a 3.0 V6 {J30 A4} motor that would be perfect for your car and it puts out 240 hp and you keep your transmission
is it cheaper ....not reallyhttp://www.everdrive.com/partdetails.aspx?sku=3069231 .........about $1200 for the motor
but you will get better results ....more torque=faster acceleration and a higher top speed ......new pipes and tires would still be a good idea

:birthday: if you put a v6 in you will UP the value

 are you guys talking rupaul trannies or actual transmissions

the only downside and this is probably the only one, is hydrolocking. this occurs when water gets sucked into the engine and seizes it up, as you know water cant be compressed...costly shi't.
valid point....but if you buy the legend specific kit it mounts right where your stock intake does so water shouldnt be an issue

not really it depends on the motor and how its been kept up,the tranny is mostly irrelevant to the equation{ unless its really worn and that you would know by now}...bigger valves is a myth bruh

alot of street racing cats do this on the daily and their sh!t doesnt blow up and turbo lag is minimal in the new turbo systems almost unnoticeable
the real deal with turbo and supercharging is it gives you a high power to weight ratio [V6 power with 4 cyl weight] thats why street racers love to turbo
does it wear your stuff out faster ...yeah a little bit depending how hard you push it

do you you mean the coolant temparature sensor??
1999 vw golf....i got coolant.....i've noticed it do it more when the car is on,but idle....
two possibilities i need a little more info
1.does the cooling fan on the radiator come on when the gauge is almost at H
2.have you changed the thermostat
3.does it cool when the car is moving
if its going up to H when your idling then drops when you rev up or drive it means either your water pump is losing efficiency or your thermostat isnt opening up all the way making the pump have to push harder.
i would go with the thermostat first {$10-25} change that first see if it improves .
The vw golf also has electric fans to assist with cooling do you hear the fan come on when the gauge is almost on H ??
because the fan is controlled by the coolant temp sensor {$20-40}if the sensor goes faulty the fan doesnt come on at the right time then the car overheats .
