new to book reading,help please!

i just recently decided to start reading books.i've always read magazines,but there pretty pointless.my girl reads alot and i've tried to read her books but they all seem to make me feel like im watching some lifetime movie(for women)i want to read a book that does'nt make me feel im reading a womens book,but i don't know where to start.im interested in murder mysteries or even biographies,and probably other stuff,but i just don't know yet.and not just black authors just good authors.





so with all that being said,is there anyone willing to help me find a "mans book"
