so Ross deserves less? What has he done to help hip hop as a genre. Anything new? no.
and
gluvnast31 Yea i guess your right.
your logic is incredibly, irrevocably flawed. just say you like Fif and move on. i gave you a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why people cant stand that dude and you basically turned it into a question of Rick Ross. again. just like 50 commands

Without anyone getting emotional, explain to me how 150k-160k first week is good, considering it's less than his first two albums.
He basically beefed with 50 for no reason. Regardless of whether or not 50 had anything to do with him selling less records....he still has his worst opening week yet. That is the reality of the situation.
Being totally unbiased we're comparing his past sales to his current sales....he did something like 40-50k less in first week sales this time than he did with "Trilla".
We aren't doing any dumb sh*t like comparing this to 50 Cent or G-Unit's sales....we're comparing it to his own past sales.
And I don't like 50 so don't even try to play that angle. Just answer the question. I already know I'm not going to get a straight answer and this is a waste of time, but whatever.

with all of the hype with 50
and c.o talk his album still
didnt outself his last one.
this is a loss for lause.
why cant everyone on sohh just understand this logic. Dude has the most hype in his career and doesnt sell more than his first two albums? It should also be said that once again CO ross tells a lie, dude said he would sell more than GRODT. Dude's doing blood money numbers

with the exception of jeezy, to whom is about at the same level as ross in celebrity fame. all those OTHER names are virtually POP music icons of this decade. just like eminem, for instance...those artists don't have to put in work and sale like crazy.
rick ross is an artist that NEVER sold platinum, but consistent when it comes to the numbers. so even during a harsh recession like today, he still got his average whereas everyone else does lower than usual. the last jadakiss album i believe debuted at 300K, but now since it's 2009 it debuted at 135K and everyone gives him props for that because we understood the music climate is today.....
rick ross getting his normal numbers is impressive when you consider how harsh music been lately sales-wise. he got the number one album in the country...that alone is success
jada sold less cause he didnt even have a single...
"WHY" was a big record for his last album

lol so he did similar numbers to jadakiss...i ain't even seen a vid for jada or even know what the official single is, i bet his budget was much smaller too
Considering that dude has the Def Jam machine behind him, TONS of promotion thanks to his beef with 50, A hot single with John Legend Apperances from hot names such as Kanye, Wayne, T-Pain, Nas, The Dream and top notch production. You would think that dude would push at least 300,000. He barely outdid Jada and Jada didnt have the hype Ross had.
Its obvious that Ross isnt the hip hop heavyweight that many have tried to make him out to be or other wise the numbers would have been stronger.

whut does having a single have anything to do with it. it's been proven over and over again that whut's popular in ringtones does not equate to influencing the album sales....
again flo-rida is the perfect example. jada got a strong fanbase, may i remind you again the last jada album debuted at 300K, rick ross NEVER had an album that ever went past 200K
rick ross has a consistent fanbase therefore his album sales are consistent due to that

comparing it to another def jam artist means def jam won regardless how you look it. BTW, he still on point to sell MORE than his label mate....the spin here is hilarious

The sh!t ain't rocket science
1. It'll be the biggest first week by a rapper all year, more of a third of a way through 2009…think about heavily hyped projects like Jim Jones that had all the promo, and even bigger records hits wise than anything Ross has dropped so far (Pop Champagne)…and it ends up selling 40K copies…
2. In a market that's declining steadily every single quarter, he's projected to basically put up numbers in the same immediate ballpark as he did in more prosperous times (187K with POM & 190K with POM)…to ignore that the general trend in album sales, and hip hop in particular, is a downward one when looking at this is intellectually dishonest at best...and flat out cliched "i'm gonna ignore the reality of the situation to help some argument i know is really bullsh!t" messegeboard fukkery at worst
3. Are we gonna pretend like half the people in this thread downplaying dude having the biggest first week of the year so far with another #1 album weren't saying his career was gonna be ruined by…
A.) The C.O. scandal..
B.) The beef with 50 and all the various internet antics that came along with it
In a climate where all hands pointed to a significant decline in his draw as an artist, dude has walked away unscathed from situations that so many claimed were the end of Rick Ross...dude was never a superstar as far as record sales goes, but he was a mid-level star amongst the likes of Jeezy, Game, Lupe, etc....and a first week of 150-160 would keep him in that same tier...besides the traditional mega-sellers and A-Listers like Em, 50, Wayne, TI, and Dre if detox drops…there won’t be too many acts in all of hip hop that’ll have bigger first weeks than 160K this year…

Game sold 8 million records. I must have missed when Lupe and Jeezy sold 8 million albums...............................................? Number 2, Game LAX sold 240,000 it's debut. Ross will take a month to sell that you dumb ass groupie with 20 thousand posts.
