Radiohead's heads are so far up their Radioa$$'s that the "music" they create almost reaches a 70's prog-rock level of horrible stink. Almost. Luckily for Radiohead, Genesis is the alpha-dung beatle of that particular dung mound. They should be content with the "hipster-btch band of the last twenty years or so" award. They've earned it. Mostly by feverishly fleeing from the best and, incidentally, simplest song of their career, "Creep".
Call me a faqqot. At least I don't listen to Radiohead.

this entire post reads "I never heard a Radiohead album." It's not even funny. Creep? wtf? thats actually one of my LEAST favorite songs (prolly the one most hated by they're loyal fans). You're talking to the wrong guy right now.
BTW - I just discovered this part of the forum about an hour ago.

Creep is also the bands least favorite song, a fact which hints at the gimmick they were going for when they shat out Bends and polished the resulting turd with OK Computer. Trying to get as far away from an honest sound in the interests of "artistic integrity" and "uniqueness". In the process, they've invented their own cliche, part and parcel to the self-conscious "irony" so beloved by the trendy pricks making a mockery of rock n' roll these days, I suppose.
I expect a more intelligent retort than "You just don't get it! WAAAAAH!".

And The Bends. :guilty:
And OK Computer. :guilty:
I still prefer the Audioslave sound more (much more potential, sucks they split) to Radiohead's, but I listen to Radiohead's albums more lately.
Also, Oasis' Morning Glory > any Radiohead album imo.

Some posters here hate the consistent and long-lasting love and attention this band's music has gotten and can't admit for themselves that anyone deserves that... but Radiohead's music actually deserves it.

Wrong. If it were a band that didn't suck, I'd be all ears. However, the 90's was kind of a wasteland for good rock music, sort of a prelude to the rock n' existential hell we are seeing now.

That's just like your opinion, man.
...and there are plenty people with decent enough tastes in music who would completely disagree with you. And, as I see it anyway, comparing Radiohead to their contemporaries is like comparing the Beatles to the rest of the 60s rock scene. In terms of songwriting (both lyrically and musically) and crafting and executing an aural vision that fits the song and captures a sort of spirit of our times, can't no one else in rock see Radiohead.
I honestly can't stand 'em--it's boring. Radiohead fans are basically the 2Pac fans of rock music.

Can't fukkin think of any better way to say it myself.. This is all my personal opinion though.. I certainly would never make a statement as bold as the threadstarter, but I can't honestly say I disagree.. 1

lol at Oasis having an album better than even Radiohead's worst shiit. Truly one of the most worthless, overhyped piece of shiit bands ever.

I've listened to plent of their music, and they don't normally branch out of their "sadder" music. Granted this is what put them on the map, but I haven't heard too much in terms of versatility when compared to bands such as Oasis or Audioslave. Radiohead is the better band with their music, but the others listed are more complete.

Kid A was so corny, it has no worthwhile songs and is boring to the point its basically ambient music. i get the appeal behind OKC and Bends, but still, not great albums to me

Idioteque is one of my favorite songs, & watching that sh*t live (when Thom does it well) is a pretty insane experience. Even besides that, in the song, the way they use Dada & sample the first electronic sequence ever made makes it all the more interesting to me. The album's fun as hell to me. You know how before you fall asleep & have music on as you go under? I used to do that w/Kid A on & dream of aliens. lol.
I understand folks being turned off by Thom's voice for sure. But to say these dudes have no artistic merit, or aren't good if not great musicians is pretty f*cking lame.
I hate the thread title btw, & I hate folks who blow 'em out of proportion. You could say i'm doing that but whatever. If someone was non-obnoxiously into a band & explained to me why they loved 'em so much (intelligently), i'd listen. Just for f*ck sake.
I realize this is opinion but i just have the exact opposite as you. Thought it was worth a mention.

Joy Division > Smiths > Cure.
Apparently, seeing a New York Dolls performance was "the first emotional experience" of Morissey's life. I mean, it's understandable, given the fact that the NYD are one of the greatest rock bands of all time. It's just odd when you consider that the Smiths are NOTHING AT ALL like the New York Dolls, and even opposite in some ways.

they used to be mediocre as hell, cmon. up until Soft Bulletin they were good for maybe 2 great tracks an album, now they make complete projects that make alot more sense
Kid A is musically a total bore. he can write amazing songs all day, if its not backed by something stimulating i cant relate. theres a couple songs that could pass for Muzak, i cant say anything positive about the album. clearly their worst effort, even Thom's solo was better

I agree with you to some extent, insofar as the lyrics and vocals are concerned. Curtis' delivery is extremely monotone, evocative perhaps of the somewhat industrial/machine-like atmosphere they wanted to evoke. I can see how someone can find it boring. I find it perfectly suited to the vibe, and it jibes well with the band's sound.
The instrumentation, however, is the meat of their songs, especially Hook's overclocked bass.

I somewhat agree with this statement.. Those Kid A/Amnesiac sessions IMO are horribly overrated.. I personally think that the fact that a band of their status made such a complete left turn overshadowed most of the actual music on those records.. I mean, half of the songs on Kid A alone were pretty much fragmented lyrics picked out of a hat.. Idioteque/The National Anthem/EEIRP/HTDC aside, I co-sign what you said about the album being a total bore.. I personally think that they didn't really hit their stride this decade until HTTT though, what a criminally underrated album...
