Can someone explain to me why we can't embedd pics and youtube vids?

I remember this coming up hellas ago and the consensus was that it "slowed down" the site and caused a server hit. I never understood this because the youtube vids and pics are hosted externally. Is there a better explanation?

My question pertains to merely doing:

I'm not begging for a feature or anything. I'm just curious about how embedding pictures or vids that are externally hosted would cause any slowdowns on the forums.

i'm not really sure. the webmaster has never fully explained it to me. probably related to the server that we use.

You guys might want to investigate activating the bbcode that will allow youtube vids to be embedded in posts. That will add alot to the forums and keep traffic from being redirected from the forums.
