alright, the car talk is cool and all... but who here has some 2 wheeled fun? what do you ride? how do you like it? how did you get started riding? interested in riding, or wanna know how to get started? shoot some questions to people that ride. general advice, stories, pics/video, non-sensical babbling, whatever!

i grew up riding dirtbikes, and always knew id be on the road eventually. had my share of 2 stroke motocross bikes, then picked up my first motorcycle after i graduated. had an 02 hd xl1200c for a year, then traded that in towards a buell xb12r. have 10k on the buell in 2 years, and love the thing. service is all up to date, and just installed the factory racekit, now the weather needs to break and its riding season sucka!!

Good thread........... I bought my first bike when I was 21, moms said no bike while under her roof. Dude at my job sold me a '72 Honda CB750. Had that for about 6 months, then moved to a '94 Honda CBR600F2, rode that joint 8 months out of the year even in the winterish 28 degree weather. Got rid of that after a year and half.

Started working at a Honda dealership back in '00, bought a '88 CBR1000. Kept that for a bit then sold that to one of my homeboys after I bent the front forks and fixed it. Been rollin my '98 Honda VTR1000 Superhawk since '01, had 3500 miles on when I bought, now its hot just over of 50,000 on odometer. Currently the SuperHawk sits in my apt livin room till our Ohio weather warms and I can hit the streets with it again.........

After having a few 4-cylinder motorcyles, I'm HOOKED on the vtwin torque, nothing like rippin through the corners and straights.

Testing it with some photo equipment around the apt.....currently needs tires and an oil change.....

as far as dirtbikes, i was mostly a honda guy also... had a xr80, and a cr125. also had a pw80, and a rm125.

first bike i ever rode i was in europe visiting family. it was a tunturi motorbike (bet no ones ever heard of them...). i think i was 10 or so, and ive never even been on a motorcycle at that point. it wasnt easy explaining what a clutch is and how it works to a 10 year old. hopped on it, kick started it, and dumped the clutch. almost went right into the side of our rental car... next day, tried it again and got it. was hooked ever since.

went for a ride today, it was really nice out, but the sand/salt is a mess. headed home around 6ish got caught in the rain. first long ride of the season for me, and already got caught in the rain (about an hour from my place). oh well, felt good to get back on it for awhile though...

heres a pic of my baby... i needed new tires, so i figured why not finish off those old crappy dunlops appropriately...

Nice Buell, you gotta love that 52" wheelbase, that thing corners like its on rails. I remember working at the dealership, Harley sent us out Vegas to Freddie Spencers 1.8 mile roadrace course to evaluate the new FireBolt before it came out. Best time ever, 80 degrees in Vegas, everything is paid for and we were on the racetrack for 2 days riding motocycles. They covered our headlights and taped our speedometers and we were off.

**To anybody getting a sportbike, make sure you check out your local racetrack road course and sign up for a TRACK DAY!!!. It's safe and fun and you will learn a lot about your bike***

I never got into dirt bikes, thought I would instantly kill myself. Although at the shop, I rode a CR80 for the first time on a 2-stroke, didn't know what 2 expect. 2 min. later I was rippin through the back gravel lot in 3rd gear trying to figure out how to get the front end down on this dirt bike. Rode a few ATV's working there along with whatever used stuff we had on the sales floor. Fun job but way too seasonal in the midwest with our winters.

I had an incident with an XR50 (small 50cc dirtbike for those that don't know), I was showing off for female at the shop and I was twisting the throttle and sure enough I went too far and that lil bastard climbed up the garage door and took me with it. I was so embarrassed that day

you worked at a hd dealer? where about?

ive been fiendin to get to a track day, i wanna see what im capable of. been on the bolt for almost 2 years, and have gotten pretty comfortable on it. never dragged a knee, but then again, on the street that might not be the best idea anyways. dont really have and chicken strips on it, but id still love to rip around a track and really get over...

yep, my cr125 was pretty snappy. had a fmf gold on it. that thing would lift up on you in 6th if you really wanted it too... until i wrecked it, hah.

its pretty seasonal on the northeast too... but people are always doing something. from what ive heard, and talkin with other shops, we are much better off than many others, so i cant complain too much...

ahh, lil dirtbikes always make you look stupid. you dont think you can **** yourself up on a 50/80, but yes, yes you can... on my pw80, i had it forever, just as alil beater bike when i still had my cr. its a tiny lil 3spd auto clutch toy really. id wheelie it up and down the block by sitting on the fender and hangin my feet back. well, i did it once tryin to be some sort of a coolguy in front of these girls, and just gassed it too hard when my feet hit the ground. i lost grip of the bars, fell flat on my face, and the bike stayed up on one wheel until it went into a pole... bloody and scraped up i got up (hurt like a ***** too), and got the bike while the girls were laughin uncontrolably and asking if i was ok. man, i felt like such a chooch... haha

have you heard that 50cc dirtbikes are now illegal? they are classified as 'toys' and have too high of a lead content, so they are now banned until they comply with the new regulations... this all stemmed from those chinese toys kids were puttin in their mouths. how a dirtbike is in the same group as a doll or whatever beats the **** outta me...

The dealership I was at was Western Reserve, they sell Harley's, Honda's, and Buell's. Located in about 30min east of downtown cleveland. Loved the job, very seasonal though, cause it was mad slow in the winter time.

Yea, up here in the northeast, let the weather get a high of 50 with no snow on the ground, out come the motorcycles.

Only thing I ever dragged on the street was my exhaust pipes on my '88 CBR1000 and the pegs on my CB750. For that Buell event in Vegas I was able to drag knee and a peg on a GSXR600, loved that bike........but yea track days are the best. We've got Nelson's Ledges and Mid-Ohio not too far from us for those. I've been saying that I was gonna get to either one of those for a track day, haven't made plans for it yet.

Yea, we always learn the hard way about dirtbikes esp. tryin to showoff. I heard about the 50cc bikes, thats messed up how that trickles down from toys and the effect is killing sales for the dirt bike manufacturers.
