Just had a terrible work out; my elbows were buckling and in pain, couldn't do the weight I normally do and I felt maybe its time to take a break.

Anyone else ever feel like this? I've pretty much been lifting non-stop for a good 2 years and it feels like my body is breaking down.

How long should I stop? Should I continue to do cardio?? I don't want to lose too much mass but I don't want to risk injury..

I'm 5'10" 205 +/- btw

I been off for a bit treatin this tricep tendinitis.

Took anti-inflammatories (aleve every 12hrs) and iced about 3 times a day for 20-30mins for about 2 weeks. Durin that time I just did cardio. If this 2 week period didn't work out I woulda had to go back and see my doc. But it did so afterwards I just slowly worked my way back into the swing of things. I'm still workin my way back into how I was.

Ordered a Rehband sleeve (http://www.jackalsgym.com/store.aspx?prod_id=RH-ES2) suggested to me by the sports doctor. Helps. Fast delivery. Took 2 days for me.

I'd go see a doctor in all honesty, sports doctor preferably, and have them check it out.

I'm taking a week off to let both shoulders, left elbow, right knee, right hip flexor, both wrists, and lower back heal. Lol.

BTW you won't lose any noticeable amount of muscle (if any) in a week. If you take creatine and take a break from that as well you might notice some shrinking. But in general it's good to take 1 week breaks here and there (maybe every 4-5 months) to let your body, and most importantly your central nervous system recover.

When I used to lift hard regular, I took a week off every 3 months....Once in a while even a whole month.

damn dude, you need a full body cast for a couple weeks

OP, sounds like you got elbow tendonitis. i'd take a week off, prolly take 800mg of ibuprofen twice a day for a couple days...then ease my way back into it. if your elbows still hurt during/after press movements (when its most aggravated) take more time off and see a doc.

Damn, so I went back to the gym after a week break (chest day)... my shoulders are feeling decent (only hurt on incline flyes) and my wrists are fine, but my elbow is still hurting pretty bad. I can feel the tendon sticking out.

Andre you said take 800mgs of ibuprofen twice a day... that's like 8 advils a day... Think I should go with 600mgs twice a day? I'm only like 170 lbs.

Other than my elbow pain, even after a week break I was doing my usual weights. So don't worry about falling off.
