lookin for some advice. when i had inquired about a 05 cts with about 45k miles on it, the cheapest extended warranty they offered me was like $2500... i ended up passing on that whip...
now im lookin at some e-class benz's mostly 04s and 05s...and just to get an idea im checking some sites online for a quote on how much a warranty would be...and them shyts are like $3000! for like a 2-yr warranty.
is it even worth it to spend that much for a warranty? im finding it a fvcked up situation when u gotta pay 3 g's on top of a $17,000 ride just incase something should break
what yall think

F*ck me, $3000 for two years? That would be the equivalent of spending $1500 a year on that car in repairs. I can't see that as worth it.

The only time I've ever bought an extended warranty it was like $800 for 3 years/36,000 miles and I never needed it. Then again, it was a Honda.

For a Benz? Man, definitely get it. That shyt will pay for itself in like 2 weeks, no lie. Last benz I had (was a 2003) needed like $11k in repairs at 70k miles. Ended up selling that bytch.

Considering it was a Benz its safe to assume most of the problems were electrical

i work around bikes, but i can kinda figure warranties kinda work the same way for cars...
the bikes we sell come with a 2 year, unlimited mileage warranty backed by the factory. after that, you can buy an extended warranty (sometimes you can with pre-owned bikes as well). the extended warranty is good to have, but ours doesnt cover as much as the original manufacturers warranty. plus, if the issue is covered, there is a 50/100 deductable. depending on what kinda car, how much you drive, etc should be your deciding factors.
and since i deal alot with warranty work at my shop, believe me, you can get alot of things covered. its almost like being a lawyer. i have guidelines to follow, and dont do anything fraudulent, but i can interpret their guidelines to my advantage (it just takes some phone calls...)
and if your like me, when i bought my car they were pushing an extended plan on me... i told them straight up, im going to void my warranty within a week, no thanks

i bought both of my last two acuras as "acura certified" which is good cuz the first one, the transmission had to be replaced, and the one I have now, the sports shifting isn't working right now, and I have only had the car since september, and its going to be fixed for free as well.

Shyt, man... lemme see if I can even remember.
First and foremost, transmission needed to go. There was something wrong with the torque converter in the '02 AMG models where it would lock up at around 1.5k RPMs, causing the car to lurch forward. Only way to fix it was to swap out the tranny... :smh:
Lets see, the RF receiver which was used to lock/unlock the doors needed replacement.
Radiator had glycol contamination due to a faulty part (that MB decided they weren't going to cover).... so needed a radiator replacement.
Intercooler pump was bad, so the supercharger kicked in and out intermittently, needed replacement.
Heating elements in both heated seats needed replacement.
Door seals were worn.
There was some clicking sound coming from the HVAC system whenever the car started, and I couldn't route the vents anymore.
That's all I can remember now, but there was more.

Damn, that's what's up! Glad to hear things are straight at that shop and you keeping it going for that long.
Kinda grew up, unfortunately man. It was time to move away from cars, but I keep my GTI clean and running, but nothing done to it. Mortgage has taken that over nicely. But one day down the road, I'm going to build another Corrado up.

yea, even with the way the economy is going, we havent slowed down as much as i woulda figured... i hear of other shops going under, having the manufacturers putting their credits on hold, etc. as crazy as my bosses are, no one has been laid off so far, so i cant complain... bikes are a luxury, so we're all just riding this storm out. if anything does happen, just cross my fingers and probably put my degree to use
btw, house > car
thats my next step, but still years away...
