Drake is a barely average emcee who is quite simple in his lyrics. Come on, most of hip hop would smash him except that lame he tries to be like. I'd put Luda against Drake and put my money on Luda.
Let's be honest though, a whole lot of rap dudes aren't seeing Crooked I lyrically (he and Royce are the most talented in Slaughterhouse)

"nikka aint seein Crooked lyrically" I agree, Now commercially Drake has great potential that other sh1t i could care less about, Just look @ the n1gga Akon dude signed Lady Gaga & internationally the girl is huge. My point is just because a bunch of people may not like the artist in California or New York doesn't mean he or she wont blow up. Dude makes quality radio music imo not the best lyrically

Different kind of rappers...Crooked I is one of the last remaining mid-late 90's variety super wordy, hyper aggressive, pseudo battle punchline rappers...think of guys like Chino XL, Rass Kass, Canibus.....and the only successful rapper of their ilk, Eminem...Drake (when he's rapping) is a cross between the post-modern contemporary swagger rapper whose direct lineage traces back to early-mid 2000's Jigga thru mid-late 2000's Weezy....mixed in with pseudo-underground introspective "everyman" rappers like Phonte from Little Brother...
I'm more partial to the latter than the former, because despite all the praise the Crooked I types seem to garner, in practice they're actually pretty limited as far as where they can go musically...which in turns limits their appeal, and leads to dudes in their mid 30's with no albums out, still trying to get on like Crooked...If Drake hopped on a track with Crooked, it'd be a clash of styles typical of what'd you expect from those two types of rappers...Crooked's verse would be like 4 minutes long with a bunch of 6 syllable words and him spitting like he's angry at everyone and no one in particular at the same time...Drake's would be more laid back and conversational, have some lines that you could relate to or make you chuckle...and for me at least, would prolly end up more memorable and replayable...

The only song i really liked from dude wuz Replacement Girl and that sh1t came out years ago when i heard it...and lets be honest Trey Songz outshined em on that and really anybody coulda been put on that song wit the hook....dude is basically Fabolous watered down on every level left wit sum of thhe "radio friendliness"...and i like Loso so that aint a shot at him..I will agree dude might get a little international fame...but iono Lady Gaga from what ive heard is more alternative then what Drake is..if Drake lookin for America he aint gon get it.

I think you're generalizing way too much here, and I think it's because you're probably not all that familiar with the material of the people you are categorizing in the first instance. Well..Chino definitely fits what you said, and Canibus too. Ras and Crooked I, do not, at all.

Drake has the b!tches on his side...once u grab the female's attention then thats a shoe-in for success, a formula that never fails... Drake doesn't need Wayne to be on his sh!t.. half of So Far Gone is single worthy and radio friendly...and he's barely scratching the surface cuz he has YET to grow as an artist...

Yeah it was generalizing in the broadest sense, as obviously it's impossible to sum up every rapper completely under nice little neat labels...but if I had the task of making official general rapper classifications that's definitely where I'd put Crooked...like a penguin and a cardinal are two very different animals, but their both birds...I've definitely heard Crooked branch out from beyond that lane, just didn't think he particularly excelled at it...
And drake at his very core is just like a lot of these younger rappers that grew up wanting to be Jay-Z...and at times is very obviously channeling Vol.3-Black Album era Jigga

Yeah, I definitely understand your position, though I feel it's a misnomer that the Drake type artists are more versatile/create more memorable music, when a lot of times they can fall under the same cliched and contrived formats others have. And a lot of times, the "effortless" way they spit or try to portray they are spitting with, tends to come out very boring, if they don't have the lyricism or the delivery to back it up with. That leaves us with the types of rappers that sound like they are sleepwalking through their verses, without having any stand out aspects to their music
I understand what you mean by Drake, but when I hear Drake, I don't get the Jay vibe, very much. He has slight attributes of like an off-shoot, of an off-shoot of a Jay biter. But nothing that directly links me to the two styles being similar.
Have ya'll ever listened to Crooked I like for real, cause that nygga does not just rap nonsensical punchlines, he's not Papoose. It's because most people have only been exposed to a handful of Hip Hop Weeklies and his joints on Slaughterhouse. Many of the people that became fans around the Death Row era have gotten a chance to see more of his abilities. I can't hate people who think he's only a punchline rapper, they just haven't gotten a chance to check out his catalog properly... or know where to start specifically.

"higher opinion of drake" what do you mean? Better lyricist? Drake is r&b singer that's able 2 rap kind of like Trey Songz
trey songz > drake then
and i'm saying....i knew he was a rapper/singer before the tape, but on the real, after hearing his new sh1t, his stock went down with me, i mean he's obiviously got some kinda talent but he seems very plastic to me, trey songz in comparison has some soul
he's all technique (and his technique, is not even that polished yet at least) and no real substance, where as someone like CH, has the substance/ideas with a lack of polish on the technical execution of said ideas
but yea, i was more excited about drake, before his new mixtape, and not just because of the singing either or degrassi, it's just a certain degree of....fake dripping off dude, don't know how to properly explain it, but i will keep an eye on him

fair enough
The west coast dudes on this board hype Crooked I too much.
"Shoot u in the back of ur head right infront of you"
"U aint gotta see Tim Dunan jump to see a flying Spur"
"I'm not H to the Izzo, but I push buttons like Jay shoulda did Joe"
Are these hot lines? Did Crooked I really star on the Slaughterhouse tracks?
No and no. He's average, those lines are forced like an anorexic taking a sh!t.
Drake has more crossover appeal(even though he's wheelchair jimmy), and makes better songs. Drake routinely gets ate on tracks by other rappers (Weezy, Phonte) but he doesn't sound terribly out of place.
Crooked I will probably outrap Drake on a track, but not by much.

I'm not really peeping the comparison, but I will say that Drake's first album should be very successful and have something on there for everyone to enjoy.
Crooked seems like a hot spitter, but guys like him rarely turn out to be great artists.
To me, it just seems like people are so 1 dimensional when comparing rappers on message boards......everything's not just about lyrics.
There's a big difference between a writer, rapper, & even an artist.

I'm not getting the comparison because Drake has yet to drop an album, yet to gain any mainstrem attention, yet to be backed or co-signed by anyone noteworthy (Wayne does not count to me) and people really have no clue what type of artist he will be since a mixtape and an album are two extremely different things.
I think the only nygga that I've seen hyped as much as this dude is Joe Budden when he first came out, and well....

I assume you take plies as an artist because he makes meaningful songs and that's not what you've heard from Drake yet? If so, I can understand that, but if he's smart he'd save that kind of stuff for albums.
His mixtapes don't have ALOT of substance in them, but he still comes off mad talented and he has that style which makes you wanna replay what you've just heard. His stuff is real easy to listen to and that's a big plus.
