Weather Underground by Massive Attack has been something I've been lookin' forward to for awhile. Air France's debut album is slated for a release this year.

Liars definitely, their last one was something pretty fierce.
Im really not sure who is putting out what is 09. Definitely looking forward to the new Mastodon album. Im sure Jay Reatard will keep pumping out quality stuff too. Hopefully some new stuff by These New Puritans as well.
Oh, and how could i forget the new Black Lips.

Ah! That Black Lips record is going to be major. Jay Reatard will definitely keep up his streak of super quality releases. I hope These New Puritans don't end up like The Rakes and completely fall off after the first LP.

The Decemberists - Hazards Of Love
I reckon they'll do a TV On The Radio/Animal Collective and get a lot more love in the mainstream. Expect Rollin Stone and Q etc to jump on the hype train. Of course the hipsters will start to hate on them.

Honestly I think The Decemberists are ahead of those two bands in terms of critical acclaim and "mainstream" appeal.

Cold War Kids have a single out in '09 (haven't heard it) called "I've Seen Enough."

Architecture In Helsinki - Vision Revision

Chances are this is gonna be average though.
Beep is worse than half the songs on Places Like This, which in turn was significantly worse than In Case We Die. Bit of shame really.
Half of Places Like This was the 'old' Architecture In Helsinki, the other half was the new AIH, where a few of the band left and the remaining lot decided to sound like the B-52s with lots of spacked out shouting. No thanks.

I get what you mean but I actually like how AIH has changed direction with pretty much every album. There are missteps on each record but I would have gotten bored if Places Like This sounded like In Case We Die or Fingers Crossed.

Wow.. "INVADERS MUST DIE" by the Prodigy is completely wack, save 2 or 3 songs.. Complete Pendulum ripoff.. Hopefully that new Massive Attack is actually released this year cuz other than these two I wasn't really looking forward to anything else...

You got a link the the Prodigy album? I was kinda feeling the single...i even liked their last album even tho most people shiitted on it. They aint exactly on the cutting edge of dance music anymore, but their stuff usually still entertains me.

See I don't think there were any missteps on In Case We Die, and Fingers Crossed there weren't many but that was a bit too 'nothingy' in places. Places Like This is a good album, but some of the songs are completely charmless.
Mika could have performed a couple of those songs which is an awful thing to say but true. Hopefully Beep doesn't represent the album, cos if im walking somewhere with my iPod on listening to the album there's gonna be a lot of songs skipped.

Side-projects never split up, they just go quiet or people stop caring about them.
But yeah they are still around, Damon Albarn played some new songs on the Zane Lowe show on Radio One here in the UK a few weeks ago.

If you like that album check out the singer, Inara George's, solo record - it's a collaboration with Van Dyke Parks (Beach Boys/Brian Wilson collaborator) called An Invitation. It's a different kind of record though.

Is it anything like the aurally-induced epicleptic fit that is Spiderman of the Rings?
Hopefully not. Bits of Wham City, and Pink Batman were good. The rest was a bit mental I though.

I actually have never heard Spiderman of the Rings. Will check it out to see what it's like... this does have like a handful of tracks that are too mental, though. The rest is sort of hit or miss but it is a fun record.

Just picked up the new Fader & YUP... she's on the front cover.

Hmmmm I think I might have to give it a miss on that basis.
My hopes for the rest of the year seem to be reliant on a few bands making surprising returns to form and some people coming from nowhere like Dodos (to me anyway) last year.
Pogues new sh*t thus far sounds delicious.
