I'm not gonna make any list, but yours is pretty spot on (When you're talking about my personal taste anyway).. The Oasis and Pink Floyd albums wouldn't make my top 20 but the ones you chose are definitely my favorite of theirs.. I'd also replace The Bends in favor of OK Computer or Hail to the Thief.. Everything else would definitely make my top ten though, with that Stone Roses album taking the top spot, I don't think you can get any closer to perfection than they did on that album.. 1

Other than Endgame, Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, and Use Your Illusion, yeah, all of them were made during or before the eighties.
Believe it or not, that fact never really occurred to me.
I mean I respect what the old heads did, but most new jacks take their stuff as inspiration and make it better. plus most of the stuff sounds terribly mastered. no hate to yo list though.

I don't know about better. It seems like a lot of the stuff coming out these days is heavily inspired by stuff from the past, which may actually be my problem with newer music. To me, it all sounds like updated Beatles or Velvet Underground material, or punk throwbacks (not that there is too much room in punk for variation, although there is some), or ironic homages to garage, glam, and "classic" rock. Rock needs a kick in the azz like it got in '67-'69, early/late 70's, and the whole mishmash of the 80's.
As for the mastering, you've got me there. LAMF, for example, needed to be remastered three times (the latest was in the 90's) before it became listenable. Modern Lovers was recorded in '72, I think, but released in '76. The Stooges' Raw Power was originally produced by Iggy Pop in '73, but he fukked it up so bad (because he is Iggy Pop) that David Bowie had to patch it up in a single day. Iggy Pop re-remastered it in '97. It now stands as THE loudest album of all time. Listening to it, especially for the first time, is like being violently raped through your ears.
