Lately I've been seeing people swear to the gods about oats.

Oats this, oats that.

Meanwhile:

1/2 cup oats 27g carbs, 3g fat, 5g protein

1/2 cup grits 60g carbs, 1g fat, 6g protein (what I currently use)

What am I missing?

Oats are slower digesting and dont spike your insulin rapidly

Grits are faster digesting and have a higher GI rating

Oats also have way more fiber

I have like 6 grams of fiber in my little weight control oatmeal packet

I hate oatmeal but I bought a blender just so I can blend it up with my protein shakes. Its well worth having as Diggy said.

so I take it grits are better off just bein a part of a pre workout meal

good look

Some people use it pre post or breakfast. Its up to you really to see how they work. I dont eat grits myself so I cant really chime in too much, but if you set your diet to allow it then its all good

heres a quote from a grit eater

"I have to agree with many of your guys posts. I find grits best in the off-season or pre-workout as they are higher on the GI but not yet to high. They have less fiber and give me less stomach bloating as well.

But for contest prep I go with old fashioned oats and quinoa as they both have a much lower GI and far better satiation index and that helps me feel much more full then grits do.

Nutritionaly speaking I would say Quinoa or Aramanth are the two best possible grains a guy can eat for health and fitness benefits."

i don't even know what grits are but oats are high in fibre... that's the only reason i'd touch them.. other than that they taste like cardboard and are yukky.
