lol @ the reference to "Ransom Note" as if it's some sort of historical classic diss track forever etched into the annals of hip hop history...I can't remember one single solitary line from it, the beat it was over, or anything else about it...and I don't think many other non-Internet Soliders can either...the dissconnect between reality and these messegeboards is seemingly widening everyday

Wow, that's just....vulgar :gag:
I mean...Greatest???
REALLY??
can't remember one single solitary line from it,
"he'll be just another unpaid ransom" <- i remember that, lol that line was dope.
i actually preferred ransom's tracks during that battle though.
but, i do think joey is an elite battler.. better than most. he should be able to serve saigon in his reply

so the general public doesnt listen to budden that much, who cares? more people outside the net listen to gucci mane than budden, what does that matter? i mean i see where you're coming from, But you act like that “outside the net sh1t” is the end all be all. Dumb asses outside the net insist that lil wayne is better than nas. Am I supposed to pretend to agree with that because it’s the popular opinion outside of the net? Joe budden diss catalogue>>>>>>>>any other young rapper....

My point is simply this:
The reality of the situaton is that Joe Buddens will not go down as THE, or even one of the greatest battle rappers of all time...actually making an impact on the hip hop populace is as much, if not several times more important than, the relative subjective quality of their music in regards to a rapper's ultimate legacy...which is why I made the comment I did about Ransom Note... just because a small group of people on messegeboards think it's apparently some alltime great diss track...the reality of the situation is that it had next to ZERO impact on the large scale, and will not be remembered or revered in the minds of the hip hop masses years down the road...
All the big untouchable names today...the people we deem legends like Nas, Jay, Pac, Big, Cube, Scarface, etc. are thought of and revered the way they are because they actually MATTERED and made undeniable impacts during their runs...if messegeboards existed back in the mid 90's, I'd bet you cats like Ras Kass, AZ, Chino XL, Jeru Da Damaja, etc. would be getting Buddens type of love and there would be cats swearing up and down how much more dope they were than say...Pac for instance....now, 15 years after the fact, who is revered more? The difference is impact, the ability to actual make a mark on this game...that's why I always point of the difference between "on the internet" and reality...
I look at things in the big picture...though "the internet" has not always existed in hip hop, today's typical messegeboard crowd are the direct descendents of dudes that would've told you in '95 Jeru was the sh!t and Big was a commercial sell out wack rapper...the conscenscous of the hip hop populace is what ultimately decides history, not the contrarions...and it's always been that way...that's not to invalidate anyone's individual opinion, but it doesn't take a prophet to foresee "Ransom Note" as being ultimately forgotten about and at best a messesgeboard trivial question on some "do y'all remember back when that cat Joe Buddens dissed so and so"...as oppossed to "Which is the greatest diss track of time: B!tch In You, Hit 'Em Up, Ether, or Ransom Note?"

ok, you made some good points
i dont wanna judge it solely based on impact, because i honestly dont understand why some sh1t is hot right now. i cant understand how people think jeezy is a good/skilled rapper (we've been through this, i know people that think he is a technically proficient mc).
if lil wayne wasnt so popular, people would have been sucking 50 cents dikk for that weak ass diss song he put out about wayne (i wanna kiss you like baby and wayne). but since nobody fukks with 50 anymore they ignore the diss. TODAY, people dont care too much about a rappers talent, its about swag....so i cant judge joe budden sh1t based on the general popoulation when they dont respect lyrics/content, they respect swag.....and joe is depressed and comes off as a lame, so of course a lot of people wont fukk with him
btw, all those people you listed in the legends category were actually beasts on the mic, each and every one of them....you cant put jeezy and kanye in that category with them even though theyre big today like them dudes used to be. times/standards change so you cant use the same logic you used 10 years ago.
