God, i hope so.

Ok, so I started working out on 7/2/08. Just moved into my building that had a gym in it...no excuses. I was @ 323 lbs (@ 6'1") with a size 48" waist. Been working out ever since...approximately 3 to 5 times a week (weights and cardio) and weighed myself for the first time last Friday.

292 lbs

:(

I was pissed. I thought I'd be at least in the 270's range. I'm down to a 43" waist...might even be able to get into 42" (haven't tried yet). I've definitely bulked and molded that chubb into muscle...is that why I'm still 292?

I'm a big dude, generally. Broad shoulders...full back status...so I don't expect to look like a skinny kid or nothing. I just expected that I'd weigh less. Sure I mainly care about how I look but still.

My other question is what would my ideal weight be for a big framed 6'1" fella? 215? 230? 250?

I wanna get down to a size 38" waist so i know I still gotta bunch of work to do

breh I say work till at least the upper abs are showing....the bottom are some stubbern bishesI got the tops and top/sides of the abs coming in nicely...and yeah, of course the bottom is another story. I hear the only way to get rid of all that mess is with cardio so I'm live on that damn treadmill for the next 4 months.

It's just I'm kinda thought I'd be losing more weight than 5 lbs a month for 6 months. I was hoping for 10 lbs. p/mo.

Either way, I'ma keep grinding regardless...just wanted to see what y'all thought.

great progress man..

i dont know what your diet is.. but it seems to me u will hit your goals by next summer...

and for 6'1 i say 230... best is 215 but hard to attain.

you can trim down to 245 if you do more reps.. more running.. better food.. i have seen it plenty of times at my gym.

All about diet and cardio bro.......the weights will of course give you muscle, but if you really wanna lose the pounds, drink alot of water, have a good diet, and cut back on the alcohol......alcohol has mad hidden calories....

Right now I'm doing 3 sets of 12 reps (increasing the weight with every set). You think I should do a bit lighter and do more reps? I like getting this definition in my arms chest shoulders etc...what will more reps do? I'm already at 2 miles when it comes to running...I'd like to get to 3 miles a day so the cardio will continue to increase...

Yeah, 215 was my ultimate goal but I'd rather be cut at 245 then less cut @ 215. I switched from just wanting to lose weight to actually wanting to get my meat head on. Who knows...ha

I could definitely work on having less alcohol weekly...but work sucks! lol

but good lookin out

10+ pounds lost a month almost ALWAYS means muscle is lost, be happy with 5 lbs a month it means your keeping your muscle and burning fat. you COULD be dropping 10+ a month if you work extremely hard and dont mind losing muscle in the process....IMO not worth it if you are already seeing top abs

I guess I'm just impatient...a bad habit of mine. I'll just continue with what I' doing then.

Good looks

You got me thinking cause I lost close to like 14 pounds since december 22. I felt most of that was because I changed my eating habits. Hell I remeber losing close to 10 in two days cause of wrestling damn weigh ins.

Them folks on biggest loser lose like 20 lbs in a week and these licensed/professional trainers jump for joy when they do. Aren't they losing muscle too, or are they just so heavy that it really doesn't matter if they lose muscle or not b/c they just need to lose? I've never figured this one out.

Biggest Loser is weird to me because it's harder for some people to lose weight more than others (age, fitness level, gender, etc.). They're not really gaining muscle as their diet is kept in check so ya I guess they're losing muscle and fat at the same time. I think that would be the reason they lose weight so fast.

I read somewhere where the contestants are on a 1200 calorie a day diet. How they survive off of that when I'm sure most of them ate at least 4000 calories a day. So, yeah, in that case, they must be losing muscle.

Wow Terrible advice in both these quotes cot damn you sending homey in the wrong direction alltogether

Ignore this ....the fact of the matter is when it comes to weight loss you cannot spot reduce you have to work your entire body. Second when it comes to body weight loss the abs are the last place on your body to react, the Body burns fat to perportion itself out that usually starts with Arms and legs to the OP WORK YOUR ENTIRE BODY

Then folks r huge and I doubt if them 400lb people have any muscle mass anyway.

If u 450 lbs u can lose 20 pounds by just not drinking pop and eating junk.

I could weigh 3000 lbs for all I care as long as I looked/felt great.

But you right about the proportion....ppl saw the weight loss initially in my face, too. And I've noticed the definition in the arms/legs a shole lot.

I'ma just stay around 1,800 - 2,000 calories a day (minus a cheat day once a week) and keep hitting the gym hard. It's just a matter of me being impatient...

thanks, ya'll

To the thread starter....I'm with ya doggy. I'm A bigger dude too. I used to weight close to 330 back when I was like 17-18 (I was an offensive lineman) but now that my football days are over and I'm in my early 20's I'm trying to drop all this excess sh1t. I'm hovering around 225-230 ish and muscle in my torso is starting to present itself but my lower abs is still kinda flabby. Just stick with it man, it sounds like your off to a damn good start. Hit the cardio like a mutha but I think its mostly what you put into your body. First start off with your beverage of choice...I've taken to water and that would cut a lot of the excess sugar/calories from your intake.

Edit: And it is good to have a goal but 10 pounds a month is really to drastic...that is some other ish.....try to drop 5-7 a month, which is more realistic. But to each his own

2,000 calories a day for a man your size is not a good idea, you need enough calories to support the actual muscle you tryna gain in the gym, what you need to do is get with a personel trainer, find your maintnance caloric intake(how much to eat to stay where your at now) and subtract 500 cals a day, thats 3500 cals a week on top of your cardio PLUS you will be eating more than you say your eating now

That's just a guess. You really think 1,750 - 2,000 calories is too little, though? Recently I've been averaging around 2,250 cals though.
damn howd you get that big?? no problem tho year and a half ago i was at 230 size 40 now im at 150 size 34booze and eating like shyt. It took me about 5 years, though, to get that heavy. Plus, I was still getting pu$$y at that weight so I was complacent...not a good move.

I'm almost at a solid 42" now so I'm on my way. I've upped my cardio to 1.5 miles a day (and about once a week I'll do 2 miles). I wanna get up to 3 miles a day.

"muscle weighs more then fat" is a misnomer. i understand what someone means when they say that...but if someone spouts that they either have poor grammar or they're not thinkin about what they're sayin.

a pound of muscle weighs exactly the same as a pound of fat. what you mean to say is muscle is more dense then fat. imagine them by volume instead of by weight.

Them folks on biggest loser lose like 20 lbs in a week and these licensed/professional trainers jump for joy when they do. Aren't they losing muscle too, or are they just so heavy that it really doesn't matter if they lose muscle or not b/c they just need to lose? I've never figured this one out.

usually what i tell really fat people is yeah, whenever you try to lose weight you're gonna lose some muscle mass. its inevitable. but how much is that muscle mass really helping you? if you're that fat and you're not a powerlifter/bodybuilder then its just excess muscle that only built up in order to support carrying your fatass around all the time. a fat guy has to have more muscle in order to support more weight as you go about your daily activities. thats simple physics. as you lose weight it becomes unnecessary. and since you dont work out, its not muscle you can stimulate.

just start lifting heavy weights. build cns connections and stimulate hypertrophy in all the muscles you can. you'll be all good. and dont forget TV shows are about numbers. they want to lose as much weight as possible and arent necessarily concerned with building the healthiest body.
