View Full Version : ***[UPDATED] My ProTools 7.1.1 (Mac with Intel) is NOT opening! [FIXED]***
Since I stupidly updated my Apple Security Update a couple weeks my my ProTools 7.1.1 has not been opening. I tried to upgrade to 7.3 and 7.4 but was unable to. I read a couple of message boards where other ppl were having the same exact problem. I found two supposed fixes. One was to go through the app foulder to the ProTools app itself instead of using the shortcut. The other was to create another user, log out and then log back in. Both of them didn't work. So far there isn't any fixes from Apple or Digidesign so I'm assed the phuck out.
What's worse is that me and my boy were about to record a song on Friday night until I couldn't get this shyt to work. It was very frustrating (especially since I had some booze in me).
This is a shot in the dark but I wanted to see if perhaps any of you had a solution to my problem. Holla!

completely remove pro tools (applications>digidesign>pro tools>pro tools utilities>uninstall pro tools) and reboot. then reinstall.

I'ma double check and make sure I have the CD and then do what you said. I'll let you know what happens.
I thought Leopard had that roll back, time shift program built into it? Couldn't you roll it back before that Apple update?I got 10.4.11

Uninstalling and reinstalling is pretty much a fix all with pro tools. You should actually try to trash the preference files as a first attempt but thats harder to explain and a fresh install is a good thing anyway. Ive had to do it before, its not a big deal.
If you DONT have the disc and all that i can hook you up *cough cough*

I'll try the reinstallation first. I'm 98% sure that I have the disc in my closet. I moved in July so that's where my concerns lie. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing it in the new crib.

have you tried repairing the disk permissions? that is supposed to be a solution to problems that occur with software after installing or updating ****

the disk permissions thing wont help with PT.
Try this real quick. Trash Pro Tools preferences Go to Users > “your user name” > Library > Preferences and trash DAE Prefs, DigiSetup.OSX and Pro Tools LE x.x.x prefs. Then restart the CPU.

EDIT: props on the suggestions, Choc

Woo Hoo! I figured it out!
I ended up calling DigiDesign and they gave me the upgrade to 7.3 and then once I got home I d/l that and then upgraded to 7.3.1 and it didn't work so I tried this...
Navigate to your Pro Tools Application in the Applications folder.
Right click on the App and choose, ‘Show Package Contents’
Open the Contents Folder, and then open the MacOS folder
Double click on the Pro Tools Icon that is in here.
This will bypass the regular opening of the program through the normal icon interface and open it as a unix executable. You will have a Terminal window open in the background but you can ignore it and continue to use the program as normal. Something in the latest security update must have broken the binding of opening the program the normal way.

I have PT 8 but I haven't installed it yet. Havent tried out my mbox micro either... just bein lazy...I gotta buy Leopard and then I'd have to buy ProTools 8. I'm broke. (note: I don't feel like getting "thrifty" when it comes to this DigiDesign stuff...)
