Was thinking the other day and was wondering if its a good idea to start a thread on like mc, artist development with tips to get better, like how the labels make artist development before they drop. I would start, but you guys trump me in these fields.Everybody could contribute they best advice, experience, and knowledge on the subject. All the essentials to become a solid, versatile, all around m c. Probably do one for producers if they haven't already. Ideas that everybody could practice to collectively get nicer. Peace all stay up.

Do you wanna know some tips to just help you get nicer or to get nicer to get signed? Cause I'll tell you this the industry is exactly how u see that shiiiit on tv. Noone interested unless u sound like the next man. And its obviously gotten extremely worst in this time in hip hop. On a rappin stand point, I mean if you wanna get nicer you just gotta keep doin the shiiit and have some what of a trademark in how you do it, like a specialty. I always been good with words and all that shiiit so i never really had to sit down wit a thesuras or nothin especially after i got my degree. but i worked on my flow hard body, especially cause i sound alot like Prodigy. I have to draw that distinction off the bat. Cause u can say I "sound" like a mafuhka all day, but i "dont" flow like the nigah. U gota have a willingness to alter ya flow too. Like dont be afraid to step outside ya box. Like wit me, nigahs like JR Writer and alot of them metaphor rappin cats are cool, but they borin! And dont front, they ARE. they come at a track the same way all the time. I am inspired by the mobb and all that but as much as nigahs on SOHH hate on Eminem he is (was) the perfect example of someone always fuhkin a track up. like if he doin a collab or suntin you always can expect him to come slightly if not way more better than e'body else on the track. Same wit Kool G Rap, Sticky Fingaz cats like that just come to mind. They always sound like they puttin a lil more work than other nigahs on a track when they spittin. Not to discredit noone else, but when i hear cats like that it gets me amped. just sit down, watch a crazy flik like the Deer Hunter have some rap shiiit that inspires you playin in the background and just start scribblin. I found it best to type my rhymes too for some weird reason.

good looking on response, I was talking about just tips by the more experienced dudes like you, roxx, dj tec, pure, nastiest, etc on like whatever tips, or ideas yall might have compiled over the years. Just basically a different ideas and **** to build a strong foundation of mc. Its hard to explain, just any and everything, I was thinking whenever somebody think of something they can just drop the idea or link in the thread and all the new dudes can reference the thread for ideas, direction, help, inspiration, whatever. Definitely not for a deal, I don't put in anywhere close enough work. I feel what u sayin about strengthen the basics, practice, sharpen and rewrite your bars till they exactly how u want them, gotta really push myself to do that. Basically thats the type of info I was talking about dropping in the thread, just real honest talk about each persons work ethic, what works for them and has worked for them and they peoples, just a compilation of those type ideas from everybody, no bull****. Yo what type of degree u get? Peace preciate the long thoughts. Stay up

I have an Associates in the Arts. I start my business course next month. Umm, I had touched on this in another thread but didnt get all into it...when i was in my mid teens or so me and my cousin and his man used to rap. They had a group called C&J and I happened to come through one day and jump on a track and they producer made me officially on the team. Round that time the whole 2-3 man groups was really poppin i.e Mobb Deep, CNN, Luniz Alcoholics etc. And seein how me and my cousin had REAL REAL similar mobb deep sound the guy who produced us shopped us around ALOT. It was us and this female group outa Brownsville which actually had gotten sued by Snoop or almost got sued for usin a track he made to promote themselves. (this was all prior to G Unit is the future and the 50 cent mixtape shiiiiit) i dont know what happened to them after that. we eventually had gotten offers from Priority and Bad Boy and what they liked wasnt even the lyrics per say it was basically the image. What really irritated me bout the whole situation was my cousin man A was and prolly is one the nicest spanish cats I EVER heard but industry nigahs kinda ignored him. He didnt have much of a look. Me and my cousin, hm bein dark skin, im light skin. we both fairly short, nigahs ran wit that whole they the next mobb deep like how nigahs did wit CNN. so as far as growth and development we never sat down wit the producer to come with "song" ideas, it was always how we gonna "market ourselves." we never got too far tho cause fuhkin psycho producer man shot his wife for cheatin on him wit a 357 which she surprisingly lived through, and that was where the fun stopped. Plus dude was really greedy wanted all this royalty money and shiiiit. nigahs would laugh at him. overall, i lost my desire to do music real fast cause i seen how ridiculous the political side of shiiit is. makes you think that alot of these artists could really have some really ill shiiiit to put out but are advised not to because of commercial hits and all that. just real lame to me now. i want nigahs to just RAP. That all. Rap. and ill finally be happy wit hip hop again.

Well, I saw this video with Lord Tariq where he was tellin people how to become a better MC. His suggestion was to take some of your favorite rhymes from famous rappers, write them down (so you can visually identify the patterns they use), and then learn how to spit them to all types of different beats with slower and faster tempos ( so you can learn breath control, flow, etc.)

but u also gotta be a good listener and not be afraid to keep a notepad with so you can write down some of the crazy shyt u come up with or quotes u hear as the day goes by. I use the notepad in my phone sometimes, but it's easier for me to scribble something on a piece of paper in cursive than it is for me to open the notebook and type shyt out on my phone.

But, yeah, every good rapper I've known has some way to jot down ideas at any given time. It used to be that a notepad was the only option, but now if u got acces to a two way u can be on your Fab shyt, if u got a palm pilot or an advanced cell phone, u can use that.

The bottom line is be prepared whenever the inspiration hits, cuz u never know when it will hit.

And DEFINTIELY practice, practice, practice

damn it don't sound like theres any hope except for going independent and distributing your own music, industry don't even want music they just want gangster pics and photo ops. They Pushing product gotta recoup, I guess. I don't know why but I started laughing when psycho dude shot his wife with the big magnum. I heard the industry slowly kill your music spirit, forcing the music and ****. Stay up yo.

Nastiest preciate the info, I keep a pen and some blank folded paper in my pockets and transfer them all the time, usually just to jot down important things to remember, but not really for writing. Need to get in the habit of writing more, be putting it off. Good looking out, I'm out. Peace and stay up yall.

Yeah, it was kinda funny. But she lived. If she woulda died it wouldnt have been too entertainin. I dont know tho far as industry wise. Youll find yourself in different scenarios. Like Labels and shiiiit respect nigahs that go that extra yard to promote themselves and put they shiiit out, like how Master P did when he started. But soon as they got you in their mitts they wanna change you up. I am one of those people who refuse to conform to what is hot at the moment. I have an overall love for MUSIC, not just rap. Like, I like that line Nas said..."Imagine tellin Bob Dylan, Bruce or Billy Joel they cant sing whats in they soul!" Hip Hop would be so much better if everything was accessible with the potential of being profitable. But its almost like it our own fault tho, cause soon as some shiiit come on that we can dance too we completely forget about the art of the whole shiiiit.

real ****ing talk. Yeah everybody love somebody that go hard and believe in there own vision, I feel u. Oh yeah tho, definitely not funny when that shorty got blasted on, thats why I was surprised when I laughed. I feel you on that not conforming ****, they'll have you dancing, then playing gangsta, then getting religious, then conscious, then singing to the girls, then auto tuning, shucking and jiving, spoken worden, having outta body experiences. That ish will make you forget who you are and what u feel/represent for a little bit of money. I read and heard thats how they do, like you some type of lab mouse experiment with you and ****, puppetmasters. That's one of the few real lines in that song, its hero ain't it. Real talk, peace stay up fam.

That song is filled with real lines, bruh. That third verse alone is practically nothing but real lines.

"my lawyers only see the billboard charts as winning, forgetting, nas the only true rebel since the begin, still in musical prison"

"people remember this, if nas cant say it, think about these talented kids, with new ideas being told what they can and can't spit"

my bad, you right, shoulda listened before ****ting on the song, but that line is saying the same thing those lines are saying. All three are talking about censoring the artist, but you right, good call.
