If hiphop is dead it didnt die 2008, try 98.
And what does kanye west have to do with hiphop in 2008, he dropped an "pop art album" according to himself. 2 rap songs the whole year Heartless and Go Hard and they are both great.

i wouldnt say Ye, he may have came out w/ a pop album but he was still nice on his features. he steered from hip hop so i dont think u can count it.

add akon to my list, he went real soft w/ this last album. i'll c/s 50 wayne and pain tho

at least 2008 is not as bad a year in hip hop as 2006, and 2007 was. them were some horrid years.

in 98 hip hop did not die..

just the balance got messed up to a point where even underground would go gold.

in 2008.. hip hop is not dead.. music is just fading.

50's success is why hiphop is like it is now. Everybody wants to drop a mixtape every two days, and now people will listen to a song and expect something else the next day. He also made it seem that the only way to come up in hip hop is to beef with someone else. Everybody is following that blueprint now and that is fukking the music up.

The music is so watered down now, everybody's doing the same thing over and over again or jumpin on whats hot at the moment instead of trying to be original. When rappers do release an album, they have their street single their radio single and an album full of sh*t.

-youre giving 50 waaaay too much credit... mixtapes BEEN out. Beefings BEEN apart of hip-hop, since its inception. So what "blueprint" did 50 "create"?

-no one was claiming people are doing "the same thing, over & over" when the "backpack", or gangsta rap era was in...

The top 5 things that are killing hip-hop is:
-the internet(sites such as WSHH can take a lot of blame)
-quality of the music
-lames ass "fans"
-lack of emcees involved on the corporate level
-people complaing about it, and not coming w/any reasonable solutions on how to "revive" it

I know mixtapes been out, but nobody was doing it in the format gunit was doing. They started doing completed songs, not just a quick 16 bars over a beat. Their mixtapes might as well been albums.

And people were beefing before, but nobody sold almost 10 million records off the hype from his beef like 50 did (Ja Rule and Murder Inc). People are going to try and copy what's successful, but everybodys not built the same way.

Me as a fan, I'm just not feelin this current auto-tune bullsh*t, so people copying t-pain style to me, just contributes to the sorry state of hip hop right now. People who continue to put out these mixtape albums just water down the quality of the music. Their albums are starting to sound just like the mixtapes which they give away for free. Why should someone buy the album?

But gay-unit also ruined the genre and more importantly is responsible for the destruction of ny rap and hip-hop, hip-hop and the music industry in general.
they are just as bad as the autotune crap, except much worse.
