View Full Version : I Thought Working Out Was Supposed To Give Me Energy

Man, I've been busting my mu'phucking ass in the gym since July 2nd, 2008. (Go check the "Gym Check In Thread" for proof) Anyway, I don't know what the phuck is up with me but I'm tired as phuck. Example:

Sunday night I didn't get much sleep so I assed out early on Monday night (8:00 p.m.)...didn't wake up until 5:45 a.m. the next morning. Approximately 9+ hours of sleep. So, Tuesday morning I went to the gym and did a basic workout shoulders & cardio...only had to go to work for a couple hours then I'm back at the crib by noon. By the time 3:00 p.m. rolls around I'm tired...so I took a nap and didn't wake up until 5:30 p.m. Then was pretty damn tired last night by 1:00 a.m. Woke up this morning and went and did cardio and abs...now I'm kinda tired.

So, I'm trying to cut out the caffeine this week and I've been dragging...wtf do I need to do for energy? I'm basically eating every 3 hours or else my blood sugar gets too low and I'm about to kill someone. I don't get it...I thought this working out was supposed to help me. Do I have mono or something? I mean, the working out has been great regarding results (lost a lot of waist inches and am on my way towards my goal of weighing 215) but in terms of the other benifits, man, I'm just beat all the time...maybe I need to eat more carbs or something?

I'm just throwing this out there...I know you guys aren't necessarily doctors or whatever, but just looking for some advice if it's out there...thanks

How carb conscious are you, also hows your diet looking while you're busting ass at the gym? Are you getting your vitamins in?

Are you on a low carb/low fat diet? You may need to add some more Essential fats in there if so. Depending on your carb intake the insulin spikes can also be making you lethargic.

As puppet said, whats your diet like then maybe we can try to help remedy this

So, even though i work out on the weekends I'll cheat. Beer and bull shyt like that...regular food. But during the week I'm having like the following...obviously this is an example of what I'd have during the week. Each line represents one meal.

Breakfast:

banana & apple
Special K cereal w/ skim
Cheerios cereal w/ skim
two eggs on rye

Snack:

Labrada Protein Meal Replacement
fruit

Lunch

Turkey & roast beef sandwiches on wheat
peanut butter on whole grain english muffins
subway sandwich (chicken breast)

Snack:

Labrada
fruit

Dinner:
Chicken sandwich
salad

shyt like that...I've been doing the LiveStrong.com food diary since August 6th.

Sounds like your low on carbs man. Low carb diets can be brutal

Try adding some good carbs like sweet potatoes or something of that ilk

Maybe try adding a bit more carbs into your diet or if not add some EFAs..fish oils, olive oils, etc

add more fruit to your diet, and take B6-B12 supplements if you still feel tired

I would say so. I'm not a big nap taker and I sleep about 8 hours a night. I definitely don't lack energy, before and after hardworkouts. A lot of times I play basketball after lifting for an hour. You should have a healthy consumption of complex carbs and vitamins.
