the key turns, check engine light and all that goes on. battery must be strong enough, since the radio runs, headlights work...
Is it the starter?

I laughed.
Flipper, that would be your starter. Try and jump it to be safe though because your battery might not have enough juice to crank the starter motor over.
Also, start simple. You know where your fuse panel is? Check out the ones that correspond w/ the starter and whatnot.

lol, remember to check the battery cables before you jump. if they look corroded, pour some coca cola over them, and also make sure they are not loose.

Pre-1988 Malibu? My car (truck actually) is an El Camino--the Malibu's mechanical cousin.
Got it checked out today because the starter and battery tested out perfect...damn pieces of metal in the steering column causing it to not start.

Nope, it was a 2005 malibu ...my first car..my dad bought it for me ...I didnt know sh!t about cars so I just gassed and went ...no oil changes ..nothing...so of course over time that sh*t was gonna fukk up.
Next thing I know my timing belt on my car broke and it woulda cost like 2500 to fix ...1000 just to open up and look at the engine ..my dad was pissed ...instead of paying the 2500 he traded it in for a 08 impala and gave me his 04 as long as i continue the payments for it.
that was the timing belt though .....thats why i said get a new car ...

Snap, it was the ignition then. That's usually the last thing thought of.
