If De La Soul's DJ Maseo had his way, his former Bear Mountain signee and Florida resident Butta Verses would be challenging Shaq, Disney World, and Flo Rida for the distinction of being the Sunshine State's best-known, proudest asset. However, with his sick rhymes, a fiery passion behind the mic, and performances with Wu-Tang Clan, KRS-One, and De La Soul under his belt, the veteran MC may not be too far off. His latest LP, Reality BV, armed with fresh beats, slick verses, and a genuine sense of urgency, should serve to boost his public profile and bring Butta some long overdue, much deserved recognition. "Speech Therapy," a track built from soul samples and abrasive drum loops, is the sound of Butta Verses on top of his game lyrically and rhythmically, proof that he has absolutely no need for the namesake of the song.
