I recently finished For the Love of Lilah (Nora Roberts). Which although it is a Silhouette it still managed to be just as charming as Nora's more recent books which I am more into.
I am currently reading, Telling Secrets a Memoir by Frederick Buechner.

Skinny b*tch by Rory Freedman is an EXCELLENT book. It's all about health and good eating but girly breaks it down in a very real and conversational tone. I read it in two days. I was like talking to your girl. It's very rare that I recommend books so buy it, check it out, steal it, whatever... just read this book.

Yeah, that sh1t scared me too..... I don't know, something about that whole book I just found pretentous and unrealistic. For once I didn't like an EJD book.
sexydelta tell me how you like that Little Scarlet, I enjoyed it, but I'm a Walter Mosley groupie anyway, so that's not saying much.

I really liked this book...alot.
I found it yucky and unrealistic, his worst book ever IMO. But the only character I liked in that whole book was Kenya. I couldn't stand the two main characters.... I dunno, it left a lot to be desired for me.

I read Black Hole by Charles Burns last night. Here's a short review that I wrote about it in my blog...
I'm not usually into graphic novels, but I read this entire book in one sitting and thought I'd share my thoughts on it.
My interest in reading this book was triggered when I heard a new song by one of my favorite artists of the electronic genre, Sweden-based duo The Knife. The name of the song is Silent Shout, which has a melody reminiscent of the classic American lullaby, 'Hush, Little Baby'. After downloading their latest album, I browsed their website and watched the video to the title track.
It was eerie and tenebrific.
Singing in an adjusted, almost demonic tone over bubbly synths, a deformed face chants, "I never knew this could happen to me. I know now fragility."
However dark they may have been, the images from the video intrigued me. After watching, I'd read that the video was inspired by Charles Burns' graphic novel Black Hole. Staged in 1970's Seattle, Black Hole is a story about a sexually transmitted disease, referred to as "the bug", which causes physical deformations among teenagers who become infected. Atypical deformities that vary with each individual. Some may be able to hide an extra mouth or a growing tail, while others are completely transformed into monsters who find refuge from the antipathy of society within the deep woods. Homeless only in the sense that they don't live between four walls.
The book is full of sex, drugs and violence. Nightmares that become reality. Pain and sorrow. All surrounding a love story, which is what I believe to be the center of the novel itself. The narration hops back and forth between a guy, Keith, and a girl, Chris. Their journey is haunting, and is either sewn together or stitched apart by weed and alcohol.
I felt a bit robbed by the ending. I did what most people do when they're in denial that they've reached the last page - I flipped back past it and found nothing. But after thinking about it, it made a sort of morbid sense. And I enjoyed the story.
Though it gave me nightmares...

"The Best Of H.P. Lovecraft: Blloodcurdling Tales Of Horror And The Macabre" by H.P. Lovecraft (duh!). I like the stories, but the racism is a little too much. I know, it was a different time blah blah blah. But still, other writer's like Theodore Sturgeon and Mark Twain thought outside the box of their times.
