Before, I just didn't think too much about it since as a dj my natural tendency is to not listen to house or techno mp3s because instinctively I've couldn't do anything but leave it on the computer or MP3 player. But now that I got serato, I've been downloading all these new tracks like crazy! (BTW, that's how I've made alot of mixes so far)
If anybody else has got some faves, drop em in this thread!

Oh yeah...some of my favorite stuff comes out of there, but I've always been a bigger fan of UK house, NY house, Chicago stuff and Detroit techno.
But as time goes on, I've been really diggin on French House for a while.
The Fader.
XLR8R.
I consider the time i found those guys as my birth into the world. Everything before that was irrelevant.

For me, it goes like this.
the first time I ever really was exposed to house music was in 1990 (!!!) when I was really little from older relatives. From then on, as I got older, the scene changed where you had all sorts of commercial tracks (Crystal Waters, La Bouche, The bucketheads, C&C, M People) and that was mainly exposed through MTV. =I enjoyed it, but I really didn't know too much about it to start getting into the music.
It wasn't until 1997 when MTV and the music world hyped up "electronica" as the next big thing. I was really finding out alot about house and techno back then from this show on MTV called "AMP"...and then I started listening to college radio mix shows which featured more of these "renegade" style tracks as I call them. That and alot of Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Chicago and Detroit techno, Euro House etc. Dance tracks that weren't poppy and more underground/punk/DIY that just seemed to come out of nowhere. On top of that, around 1998-1999 is when I started going to alot of my first raves as a teenager, and ever sinc ethen I wanted to become a DJ and spin house and techno.
And to this day, that's what I base the foundation of my DJ career on...even though I consider myself a hip-hop head at heart. I was always attracted to it because it seemed so ahead of it's time, which it was and now, alot of those older tracks that I heard ten years ago still sound as if they were made today.
I've been DJing house and techno for almost a decade now and although I'm just getting ahead in the DJ world with it now, I still look back on the past decade as just the time where I was really trying to persue the music that I've enjoyed for a while. I just see my involvement in it now as a way to contribute to the scene.
aint nothing like afrocentric house or just reg house music.
