View Full Version : Nutrition experts - What is your rule to eating late at night?
I hear you shouldn't eat lots of carbs at night and also not to eat 2 hours before bed.
But what if you stay up late and haven't eaten after 3-4 hours? Do you eat? If so what do you eat and how much longer do you stay awake?

well I dont know about the carbs part.. but for the 2 hours before bed... You should have some type of protein shake or something w/casein.. So you can feed your muscles while you are sleep.

Right now Im slamming a weight gainer before bed with 2cups of 2% milk....But it takes me a few hours to sleep anyway so. If i'm up a while Ill snack on yogurt or something.
Its better to have protein/fat later at night for many people than heavy carbs..Alot of dieting is trial and error anyway, depends on your metabo and body type.
you can eat eggs if you want =)
You gotta see what works for you cuz if u read these youd hear opposing facts..some say too many carbs will hinder GH release when you sleep, some say otherwise

Used to take in some cottage cheese before bed. Now I'm taking a casein shake since the taste > cottage cheese lol.
There's no problem eating before bed if it fits into your caloric needs. But yea, it is generally better to shy away from carbs the closer you approach sleep
you guys ever do peanut butter? I heard that was good. I've done like a spoonful right before going to sleep.

Yeah, I use that also. anything to help slow down the digestion..
depending on if i'm cutting or bulking, my night shake is usually
milk, ON casein, peanut butter, flax seed oil( yuck ) and some twin labs animo Fuel.

oh yeah i do peanut butter...its a great late night snack because it stifles hunger.
make sure its NATURAL peanut butter tho.
fvck you just reminded me I left my natty PB at work....:(
and yes cottage cheese gets old......it will be the end of lunch and Im lookin at half a bowl like Im 7 and it just took my bookbag

i do peanut butter with my cottage cheese.also i add splenda to cottage cheese to help ease the taste.
as far as eating carbs at night.it all depends on when you go too sleep. if your eating clean carbs at 10pm but your going to sleep at 2am thats fine. thats more than enough time for your body to process the carbs.
