So I've decided to give this diet a try......It's extreme as hell, but after hearing the results of some of the people who've tried it....I've decided to give it a try.
Heres a link to the layout of the diet
http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance_diet_nutrition_bodybuilding/the_velocity_diet
Basically it's 28 days of hell. Where you consume mostly protein shakes/fish oil/fiber/flax seeds etc.etc. But it's suppose to be great at burning off fat and maintaining muscle. So I thought what the hell, I dont recommend this diet for most people.. so call me crazy.
Day 1 starts tomorrow, I'll give a write-up of what i consumed tomorrow.

My brother lost about 20lbs in one month on this, but he didn't buy their protein shakes, he used some other protein he already had.
I think anyone that replaces at least 2 of their meals a day with lean protein shakes are going to see a difference in weight tho.

i've done this before.
i made some minor adjustments to the diet, but i still lost probably 15-20lbs in a month. maybe 5lbs was just water weight though.
when reading any t-nation article be very wary because their main goal is pushing their supplements, not results. i bought all my protein blends (when/casein) from cheap sites online. got my fiber and fish oil from some walgreens brands.

I think I am going to modify this diet somewhat........Taking protein shakes all day leaves me hungry as hell.
Plus it's fall/winter.. I think I'm going to continue bulking until feb/march.
and I never planned on using their supps.
sh*t like this is so unrealistic. of course you'll lose weight if you're drinking only protein shakes for a month. But how bout every month after?
Stop dieting and change your lifestyle. That is the only way to go.

Not true at all. I'm down a total of 55 using the velocity as a primary base, while just overall working out more, and eating better.
Agreed that lifestyle changes have to take place, but there is a lot of evidence supporting this diet.
Go for it!

i'm Laurence Fishburne, and I support this diet.
# I am currently taking Gym classes @ 7am and 6pm. I also did this lemon detox fad diet, I've lost 12lbs in 6 days, after a total of 21 days, I will switch to the high protein diet for 1 month and replenish the lost muscle.
# I did also break 1 toe 2 weeks back so it is increasingly difficult to excercise.

55 over the course of 7-8 months now.
Eating better consists of:
More Water.. (1.5 gals per day now)
Better Complex Carbs (if I eat em) Brown Rice, Yams, Oats
More Veggies period
Vitamins to round out whatever I dont get from food
staying away from fast food
CONSISTENCY - I put this last, but this is the most important.
I've learned about myself and others over the last few months. I realize we are used to "reactionary" eating, and frown upon anything that requires us to think, even if it's for a second or two. I don't eat on emotion anymore. In fact, I now use not being on the up and up to fuel me. If I have to eat bad, I just avoid the badness. You don't HAVE to eat fries. You can choose a salad over that 99 cent triple cheeseburger.
I really feel that the only way to really, and I mean, REALLY get it poppin is to obsess over it. Seek and ye shall find. What I do EASILY now, I've dreamed of for years and failed because I lacked the mental control.

You did not post your excercise routine for the 7-8 months though.

Umm this is a lifestyle change and NOT a fukkin diet. Most of use eat the same thing everyday.

I just did a pretty basic routine that took care of the major areas. Shoulders (military press), Chest (incline, decline, flat bench split between barbell and dumbell), bis (curls), tris (pulldowns, dips), back (machine pullups, rows). Pushups on off days. I have a torn ACL, so I haven't really gotten into a lower body split yet.

I'm just answering the questions asked. Obviously, the diet is posted in the link above. This is after the diet, to maintain the results.
Also, if most of us eat the same thing everyday, how come most of us don't look the same?

i did the velocity diet for a month, then a carb cycling diet for about 2 months. finally had some abs in the middle of march.
i dropped a good 25lbs or so of fat, and i already have a very rigorous full body routine (check the search for some of my older posts) which i've always kept up with. even when i wild out and eat a bunch of fast food for 2 weeks, i stop and put my diet back in check and loose the fat again. i pay a little less attention to my diet now, although its still good, and i still stay within an arms reach of my abs. so effectively i kept all the weight off.
yes it is a lifestyle change, but theres nothing wrong with using a diet to kickstart yourself. the best part about diets is it makes you fully aware of the things you put it in your body so it educates you on nutrition and makes it easier to keep the weight off.

its actually recommended that cardio is kept to a minimum during the velocity, due to muscle loss.

damn, so its strictly for bulking up ?

not at all, it's strictly for leaning. But the premise is that you want to accelerate fat loss, while minimizing muscle loss. Consistent weight training, with minimal cardio is the plan.

i just caught the HIIT bug.
im doing 4 days HIIT(mon, wed, fri, sun), 3 days heavy lifting(tue, thur, sat) for the first week. then aiming to do equal amounts of each.
on the velocity diet, likely outcome ?

probably still lean, but not as much muscle mass gain due to some being lost from HIIT.

i still didnt do any cardio when i was on the velocity diet simply because i was eating a lot less calories then i normally was, so i didnt want my body feeding on muscle.
lift heavy, compound lifts 3 days a week. keep taking creatine, a multi, and fish oil. that will help keep as much muscle mass as possible. get 20-30 g of carbs in post work out. its best of 10g of those are fiber (you still need fiber in your diet)

no bcaa's? important piece to the puzzle, also aids in muscle retention.
I lost 14 pounds and 4 inches(waist, legs) through detox and been on the velocity 3 days(but i confess i ate a subway sub the other day).
How do you get your deadlift up ? Currently lifting 150lbs. Squatting(barbell - freeweight) 100lbs.. i need to increase both by 100lbs in 12 weeks
