I got an '86 here, 5.0. She's stock except for the paint, which I gotta get redone. My elky is rusting, back shocks are shot, but I can't complain for a truck that I've had for 15 years and got for free.

How much should I expect to pay for body work and paint?

What kind of shocks/struts should I put on for a sportier feel?

very nice. I have always wanted to build a '59 elco. We are building a 85 elco w/ 87 monte carlo LS front end with all the LS trim and all that. Cool lil conversion. As far as body work and paint. Just all depends on what you want

O yeah, and your elky does not have struts. Coil with shock on front & back.

Good to know. About how much does basic suspension work cost?

Front shocks are easy. Zap off the top bolt (9times out of 10 they break off) zap off the bottom 2 bolts (these have clips on the lower control arm) slide the shock out. Insert new shock. Put one bushing on the bottom of the spring pocket, one ontop, zap the new bolt on, zap the 2 bolts at the bottom on.....Done...new front shocks. Now that may or may not help your ride depends what else is broke/worn out on your suspension.

my fault fam, price all depends on what you need/ whos doing it. Good front shocks are prob $40 - $50 apeice. New springs about $100 a set. New upper and lower ball joints & upper and lower a-arm bushings (these have to be pressed in or use a big hammer) $100 - 300 depends on what brand and all that.
