First thing's first The only thing that comes close to Vinyl is Serato Scratch and then perhaps Numark CD turntables. The problem with the cd turntable is that they do not have one that can control both CDs and Records Yet even though the Numark CD Turntable is the same size as a record player and has a fake Vinyl platter etc. At that point they should have just integrated the ability to add a tonearm and create the first turtable/cd player hybrid.
People come up with ideas but never think about the full useability. Fact is DJ booth space is a limited commodity that must be thought of before adding more and more equipment. We now have several breeds of DJs, Traditional Turntable DJs, Turtablists, CD DJ's, CD Turntable DJs, MP3 and PC DJs, and Serato/Final Scratch DJ's. Some of these interact easily within a DJ booth some require rewiring etc...
It was definitly easier when every club you walked into had 2 Technics and a Mixer, back then all you had to worry about was what kind of crappy mixer the club might have. But as of recent I've had to go back home or send people to my house to pick up my techs while I play one of my Mixtape CDs (http://www.djemir.com) or mix using my friend's CDs while my Turntables are on route to the nightclub. Sufficed to say I was shocked that a nightclub wouldn't have standard equipment (turntables)
and I quote one club owner "I didn't know anyone used Vinyl anymore" Say what? only clubs that are out of touch, don't know anything about their own industry and have been hiring the wrong DJs.
Were talking about clubs that hire djs that don't even know how to mix (http://djemir.com) using cds. Then they wonder why their club is empty until we as a promotion companyPromotion Company (http://www.djemir.com/pleazure-entertainment.html) come in and do a special party night set up turntables and promote like crazy. You just can't go using american DJ/ numark dual cd player rack mount crap, that technology was innovative perhaps at the turn of the millenium (LOL funny how we can use that now) but nowadays you have to have at least a CD player that can mimick the feel of vinyl (and really nothing still feels like vinyl... so sexy yes you are my little Vi...) wow that was a little embarasing LOL :afro:
Somewhere in these forums someone was talking about Kid Capri supporting a certain CD turntable, Perhaps he tried it for a month or so, but last time he came out to Denver (about 2 weeks ago) he had his crate boys carry in all his huge crates of Vinyl, and he specifically said "This is the real ish... I rock real records non of this serato, or CD playing ish" so I don't know where these catz got their info but they must have their sources mixed up.

Digital Turntables, I've used them since I first started DJing (some saving up required)
They do really good for me, whatever you do don't buy a Technics DZ-1200 they are terrible. Numark CDX would be your best bet.
It's important to understand that since this is all you've known (speaking to all CD Turtable DJs not spoecifically you) it will feel right to you, and that's ok. But take a few months and learn to dj on real turntables and you'll come to understand that there is a higher level of "Record Control" and in the skill ability required to achieve record control that just isn't found on CD turntables.
There was one CD turntable I found more recently that had a hand pressure sensor that actually mimicked the ability to do rubs and faderless scratches incorporating a similar sound to making the needle "almost skip" like when doing finger tap and record rub style no fader scratches that til now were a Vinyl only type technique. It still lacked "that feel" plus now anyone can do it, versus learning the right touch, just enough to creat the sound without actually making your needle skip, that takes skill, skills that will be lost with the new technologies. Sort of like Kung Fu skills of the past, there may never be masters with the kinds of skills found in some of the masters of the past, because the need is not as great anymore. And because there are more distractions, things that keep us busy.
No current technology allows you to change music faster than Vinyl, Serato comes close But I can still change real records & Cue up faster on real vinyl. Granted putting back all those records can sometimes suck but quick sets using just small breaks are best done with real vinyl.

But Serato is so damn close, i just purchased Serato ($350 sale plus coupon) and i absolutely love it.. matter fact i would recommend anyone 2 analog turntables and serato instead of a CDJ.. and the numarks arent that bad.. i have both the Numark TT500's and Vestax PDX2000 MKII pros's and i dont see any difference expect platter height.. i have 4 flawless decks.. saving for some stanton or tech 1210's for mobile work...though

I believe that was me and my source was my own 2 eyes. It was on TV, either BET Spring Bling or some HBO $hit, Kid Capri was clearly rocking some Pioneer CDJ's. If he wasn't rockin em in Denver, oh well. But if he says he never used em, He's lying. Yay, you're a purist. Good for you. I've got an old motorola pager and rotary phone for sale if u wanna buy those too.

I used vinyl for years and I'm pretty good on it, but i was ****ing around with these tables at guitar center that has vinyl on it but you load a cd into it, same feel as vinyl with a cd, they were 699 a piece, i'm thinking of getting em

remember when testing for sound quality on any digital table format, press ur fingers on the vinyl so it goes real slow, then listen to response of the digital replication, thats the true test of which sounds best, i got serato and i love it except for when u wanna go real slow u get a real digital sound, ima try it with the numarks to see if they do the same thing...

I am thinking of buying some, like the DM2, since mp3s are much easier to get than vinyl
