Agreed.

Probably second to Arcade Fire. Pitchfork's 9.7 for 'Funeral' is a joke to me.

Not really. Obviously, the winner of that award is Radiohead. With N.I.N. somewhere in the running. If we're going to limit it to strictly "indie" music MGMT have received just as much hype without really producing new or interesting music. We could also mention Devendra or Animal Collective.
TV on the Radio don't have a single release that hasn't been good to great (excluding Ok, Calculator--which doesn't really count.)
They've been arguably the most consistent new band of the past five or whatever years. The only other I'd really feel comfortable pitting them against would be maybe Broken Social Scene or Ratatat.

lol at calling Radiohead and Animal Collective overrated and then talkin about Broken Social Scene. Give me a fukkin break.

Animal Collective, another annoying source of sound 2nd only to cats being skinned while playing the harmonica in screechy pitches.

Dear Science makes Return to Cookie Mountain sound like unfinished demos.. Saying that might be a bit of a stretch but that's totally my opinion.. It's easily at the forefront for best "Indie" release of the year.. 1

No one throws around claims of genius with Broken Social Scene. Or charges them with reinventing the wheel with every release. They get credit for putting out solid albums.
The same can't be said for Radiohead or Animal Collective.
Also, the discussion is about being overhyped not overrated. Two decidedly different things.

Finally heard the album, and i gotta say this **** is FUNKY. Nice to see they werent afraid to flip the script. Its more listener friendly than Cookie Mountain, which took me a while to get into. Only time will tell if its better, but its certainly not out of the question.
After a few listens this is my least favorite of their three records.

its like they tried to do a different style on every track, like that old parody group Green Jello.
