journey is fukking horrible and their fan base is made up almost entirely of women aged 25-40. threadstarter lost
that being said they would still probably make a top 10 of the decade (in rock, at least) because it was probably the worst period of music ever. i like some of the electro-pop sh!t like Talking Heads but overall I gotta say I'm embarrassed to be born in the 80's...i'm just glad I was still very young when it all ended

Guns N' Roses and Journey may both be from the 80's but in no way should they be compared......Guns N' Roses is on a different level from any other bands in the 80's.

The 80's are definitely slept on.. You had the beginning stages of indie and thrash metal.. UK Electronica on the rise and of course the highly underrated "Madchester" scene.. Yea, shiit rock like GUNS'N'ROSES and most definitely queer music like Journey does not even compare.. 1

I didn't know 45 year olds went on this site.
Also, Journey doesn't even belong in the same breath as Guns N' Roses. I'm pretty sure back then as supposed to now that type of statement would offer you a swift kick to the balls and a cigarette butt in your drink. Not to mention, the riducule of even Bon Jovi fans.
Talk to anyone who was aroud back then and Journey epitomized the stadium rock band...the dreadfully boring one that eventually got taken over by hair metal...then eventually GNR, then grunge/alternative and everything else that came before it. Just because they had great songwriting and chemistry as a band and made a couple of insanely popular singles that a bunch of late teens and twenty-somethings now find "great" years down the line in that horrid ironic type of way that made trucker hats fashionable five years ago. All the while, they still tour to an obviously older crowd...and no new one to be found.
Why? Because Journey sucks donkey dikk! Worst Alt music post ever!

Just my opinion, but I'd take The Smiths (not the best band of the 80's) over both these overrated bands

there was nothing wrong with 80's rock imo
i wasnt a Huge rock fan & was young at the time (born in 80) but i remember watching mtv & seeing all kinds of bands like Depeche Mode, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Midnight Oil, They Might Be Giants, etc and that was just the mainstream ****
if you wanted more underground 'alternative rock' they had shows like 120 Minutes
Nirvana & the whole grunge movement was Overrated as hell, as far as getting credit for replacing the so called "bad music" from the 80's. they took the fun out of rock
also, Journey is for Fags

I was born in 84...but I was watching MTV at a very young age and all those bands that you mentioned...(along with some others that were big along with the grunge and post grunge movements, the Pixies, The Breeders, DIg, Green Apple Quick Step, The Dambuilders along with many others, but I'm not trying to reminisce.
Journey at the time was more like Boston and Asia....ckock sucking stadium rock that only appealed to suburban lames with cash to spend. Hell...in retrospect bands like those make me appreciate Motley Crue, Sebastian Bach, Poison...that immediately became corny once grunge came through and knocked everything.
I thank god too!!! I think the best years for rock were 88-98...so much energy, so much passion, so much fun!!! That's when it just became somehing more powerful than it once was and being into the scene then and going to shows was alot more real because the music finally broke out of it's damn shell!!! I'm happy that I got into it during those years because I ended up enjoying alot of it (98% of it) and having a good ear for it.
But yeah...120 minutes, Alternative Nation were my favorite shows on MTV. I dunno what it was about the nineties, but the years after grunge (94-98) brought out alot of interesting and great bands to the forefront. Way too many to name now.
