Im getting desperate to lift weights outside of my crappy dumbells and doing push ups. I usually lifed weights at my school's gym downtown, but I wont be moving back on campus near the gym until august. But there is a ymca right around the corner....anyone know anything about YMCA? How are the weight rooms/costs?

I went to the Y and worked there for a summer. The facilities are usually pretty nice, but normally they have a lot of people(see lots of women and children) and get crowded, depending on the time of day that you go. Anytime after 5pm and expect to wait on a machine.
Rates I'm not sure if they're universal, but I think a single membership is like $30 a month for an adult.

maybe it's different here.. i've gone at like 6/6:30 and have only had to wait for a machine a few times and that's only this year since they moved half of the weight machines that were in the general workout area (the area with all the cardio machines) upstairs to the new weight room.. and i haven't been up there. i heard it's nice though
but yeah there are lots of kids... well not really in the workout areas, but the locker room, pool, bball courts... so yeah i try not to go on saturdays after say 9am...
i pay $35 a month (young adult membership). i recommend visiting and asking for a tour/info

Yeah I'm sure it all depends on the area you're in, it usually fills up quickly where I am though... but mine also was only one story.
I like the Y though, they have a lot to offer for a gym as far as weightlifting, swimming, classes, and activities like basketball leagues.

I was paying $44/month :smh:
Weight room was small and it was getting seriously packed around last month. Overall it's not worth it IMO, you'll probably save money by signing up with 24Hr Fitness or something. I signed up for the Y cuz I wanted to use the bball courts too but they always got scheduled things going on in there.
If you're interested in other classes/activities then the Y might be worth it. If you just wanna lift weights then it's not worth it at all.

I pay $35 a month. I have no complaints. Til I find a gym thats cheaper and in a relatively close distance this is where I'll be at for awhile.
When you start throwing up big weight kids and women start to respect your space.
