I wanna start getting in to another genre of music besides HIP-HOP, I like NERD and Coldlpay's new album is good...I guess I like Alt.Rock...so any suggestions?

I don't listen to NERD or Coldplay, but I know enough to suggest Smashing Pumpkins and Incubus. Both are very different in fact, but I still think you'll be able to get into them moreso than any other band if you going from Hip Hop to Rock.

Linkin Park and Radiohead are probably your best bets. Hybrid Theory and OK Computer are their best work, respectively.

^ Nice elitism. Very hip yet straight to the point.

I don't want to sound like too much of an elitist but Linkin Park? I know Hip-Hop fans have no taste when it comes to rock but these guys have somehow managed to pull off a half-ass latter day U2 impersonation while they're still in their 30's. They're awful.

Sure, let's give the guy limping funk that utterly fails to get anyone dancing, pop-punk, flat stadium rock, anthemic Coldplay ripoffs and Emo-garbage. That'll open his eyes to the possibilities of rock music.

Get into some good sh!t. Find out where modern rock music like Coldplay comes from.

Get U2's 80's stuff. Joshua Tree, War, Boy, Achtung Baby etc.

Iggy Pop's first two solo records and the first three with the Stooges are all classics. David Bowie through the 70's. Talking Heads. Roxy Music.

If you want modern stuff, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are fantastic. Grinderman (the side project) might be one of the best hard blues albums of the decade. The Good, The Bad & The Queen is a fantastic album by Damon Albarn. Speaking of that group, check out Damon's stuff with Blur. Check out the first 5 Clash records. The Verve's discography is impeccable. Faith No More's Angel Dust is another classic. Death From Above 1979 put out a great album a few years ago and then a remix album which was just as good. If you want anthemic, depressing rock go for Bloc Party or Joy Division. Both are sh!ltoads better than anything fukking Keane could ever do. Super Furry Animals are miles better than that half-assed excuse for a band. They at least know how to make different songs that sound good.

I don't want to completely sh!t on most people's music tastes here, but let's be ****ing honest, the only way you'd recommend Aerosmith to someone is if you hate them.

edit - then again you all probably grew up with these bands. Of course you'd love them.
