are motherf*ckers being serious or are they that simple minded?
you're saying pac is greater than nas, gza, meth, common, eminem, canibus, and how many other rappers that pretty much make him look like some abc ass rapper? are motherf*ckers serious?
i'm convinced motherf*ckers is on his d!ck cause he's dead or cause it's the cool thing to do. you have a right to like anything you please BUT when it comes to giving the ultimate props when the man ain't even say sh!t that's f*cking with others yo.
if you think pac's the g.o.a.t, then rappers like lil wayne and jeezy being g.o.a.t is possible. f*ck it, soulija boy being top 10 is possible if you believe pac's top 10.

it's a dumb thread if you're dumb.
trill talk, a lot of motherf*ckers must be very simple minded if they think anything pac says is brainboogling. i was listening to all eyes on me yesterday as well as makaveli and i was getting irritated @ the thought of this guy being considered the g.o.a.t rapper.
it must be cause he's dead.

man... all you little pac fans keep on saying the same songs BUT they ain't sh!t okay. ya can't be serious. sit your ass down, sherlock.
you're an idiot if you think that sh!t makes him great. master p made the same type of sh!ts too but you don't see people running around calling him the g.o.a.t cause he's still alive. you motherf*ckers lose credibility off the strength it takes somebody to die for you to even pay attention to them even if they was a corny wanna be thug f*cker that was basic as hell with their raps.
if tupac is the g.o.a.t, then you might as well give hammer the top honors. f*ck it.... i ain't saying these other two rappers are wack, you might as well give q-tip and krs the g.o.a.t honors.

Yeah the rappers you named are stright when it comes to lyrics but Pac wasn't about goofy methaphors or double entandres or anything like that, he rapped what he felt from the heart with passion, you could hear it?
Gza?
Canibus?
Meth?
Name one meaninful songs this cats made..
"Brenda Got a Baby" trumps any songs any of them cats made
Nas has great lyrics but he wish he could spit his **** with the urgency of Pac
Sounds like you spend your time reading lyrics rather listening to music
I'm not saying he is the best ever but he in the Top 5, and damn sho better than all thoe MCs you name, possible exception for Nas
GZA the greatest? Really?

you guys ARE NOT serious. man.... just admit it, you love pac cause he's dead. that's all. if pac was alive, you wouldn't even listen to his ass. you would be like "he's alright. he's not all that good. 50 cent's better than him." am i the only motherf*cker that gots balls enough to hate this motherf*ckers music?
gza's liquid sword cd >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ANY PAC ALBUM THAT EVER WAS RELEASED. pac's songs are NOT f*cking with gza's catalogue. for starters or people like you, he pioneered pac's style with the words from the genius album where he was saying the same sh!t pac was saying BEFORE pac's first album came out.
on top of that, pac was NO lyricist. when we says greats, we talk about lyricism talent. motherf*cker DOESN'T have any lyricism skills whatsoever. NONE! all the rappers i named make him look like an abc rapper. motherf*ckers don't even listen to hip hop like they supposed to. they bandwagon boys.

It's really all about what you want to get out of your music. You talk about meaningful songs, but not everyone listens to rap for meaning or for direction or for purpose or for knowledge or for deep thought. So in 'Brenda's Got a Baby', Pac talks about a social issue. But in the hood I see that all the time! So when I listen to rap to zone out and escape all that I just want to listen to something I like. Now if meaningful rap is high on your list, then an artist who makes such rap would be high on your list. It's just not that way for everyone.
Besides..............................Biggie, Jay, Nas, >>>>>>> than Pac's overrated ass! Pac had to make meaningful music with his simple ass flow and average lyrical skill.
CHCDyce
06-12-08, 12:41 PM
Pac wasn't the greatest lyricist, but if you ask me, that's not all that's judged when considering the best. Personally...AZ's verse on 'Life's A *****' is the best verse I've ever heard (especially the opening..."Visualizin the realism of life in actuality.../**** who's the baddest, a person's status depends on salary...") but I don't consider him the best to ever do it.
It all comes down to what you want out of your music. For some people, they just wanna escape reality and party or feel good...hence the success of club/pop music. For others, such as myself...although I enjoy some "feel good" music, sometimes I just want something I can relate to when I'm going through something. For that, I would pick up Ready to Die and listen to 'Suicidal Thoughts' if I'm feeling real low...or Mood Muzik and listen to Budden go all out about his stress...or even Pac and listen to 'Dear Mama', 'Brenda's Got a Baby', 'Changes'...etc.
The point is...MOST people don't like Pac for his lyrics. They like Pac because you could FEEL the emotion he spit with. You or I could say the SAME exact thing Pac said but it wouldn't come across the same because the emotional attatchment to the lyrics would be different. That's what Pac brought to the game...pure, raw emotion...and that's what it needed at the time. That's why people love him, and rightfully so because NOBODY else - - before, since, or after Pac has brought that kind of intensity to the mic.

Epitome of an east-coast listener. So if lyricism is ur only measuring apparatus, than u prefer lyricism over spirituality?
No thanks. I cant name one line from any artists u name, and if I did it wouldnt mean anything to me. Pac's music was nourishment for the soul.
And u are comparing 2008 to 1992-1996....a 12-16 year difference...an eternity in hip hop.

While all my homies stuck in prison.

definitely. I think the worst part of it all is that no one is allowed to have a reasonable discussion on it without the brainwashed masses getting offended.
Its almost impossible to judge an emcee like Tupac with an inflated image on his true skills as an emcee without fearing repercussions from his die hard worshipers.

Basically, if I could choose only 3 rappers to pass down onto future generations, Pac would definitely be on that list... GZA, Nas, Canibus and the like are all extremely dope/legends in their own right, but they all represent only a single facet of hiphop: cold, calculated lyricism. And that's not to say that's bad, lyricism and wordplay, the technical side of rap is vital to it's form... and yet Pac is probably the only rapper I've ever heard (besides maybe Ghostface) who raps with true spirituality and raw honesty... he said whatever the hell was on his mind and converted it into a form all could enjoy. In essence, he manifested the human spirit in musical form, and thus remains completely unique in the hip hop realm.
Honestly, tell me another rapper who spits with the intensity of Pac. You can FEEL his emotion, his very soul in his tracks. I could pick up an Illmatic song and master it's intricacies in days, if not hours. GZA, Canibus, it's all a matter of getting down the flow. That's IT. And yet if I try to spit a Pac song, I would probably never be able to replicate the sheer intensity in which it was first recorded, and I doubt anyone else could either. And considering the relative simplicity of his rhymes, that is saying ALOT.
Now, that being said, I don't even consider Pac the GOAT. Top 5, maybe. Top 10, definitely. But I understand the people who think so highly of him.

People felt pac...it wasn't exactly the rhymes he was displaying...did he have crazy metaphors or whatever like Canabis, and these other cats with over the top lyrical talent...no...but it's the messages he put in to his songs...You can tell Pac gave himself to his music...2pac isn't the best rapper period...because 2pac wasn't a "RAPPER" 2pac was an artist...a "Rap Artist" which is what we don't have alot today...Lil Wayne is a Rapper...you know what I'm saying...Kanye West is a rap artist...there is a distinct difference...and you can tell...
For ole boy who made this thread, couldn't have grown up in the 90's...cause the only cats who didn't like Pac...liked Biggie...i liked both of them actually...they both brought different things to the table...but Biggie was a rapper...a great one...but Biggie was no Artist...Not saying he didn't have that potential...Basically biggie was on his equivalent to "Me against the World" when he died...2 Pac is still bangin and will continue...cause his music is what people call "True Classics"...You can hate or love that...but I garauntee 20 years from now...people still gonna be bumpin Pac...Can Canibus say that??? or whoever else you named??? Maybe a few people will...but not as many Pac listeners...Quit hearing things and start listening...
Basically, if I could choose only 3 rappers to pass down onto future generations, Pac would definitely be on that list... Name another rapper as raw as Pac, who said whatever the fukk was on his mind, even if it meant contradicting himself and contradicting his values. Name another rapper whose music actually means something besides clever metaphors... there aren't very many and there certainly aren't any that can match the emotion Pac spit with. This is the same rapper who had 'Dear Mama' on one album and Hail Mary on another. If you couldn't feel Pac's venom on the 7 Day Theory by just hearing the opening lines, you ain't shiit!

I wouldnt say that alone is what killed hip hop, but it got a whole lot more bull**** when people started accepting this as fact
It is definitely media tricknology, anyone who was listening to hip hop before 1996 knows this sh!t is ridiculous and indefensible
Thanks in large part to MTV and a legion of white fans, history has been virtually rewritten to cast 2Pac as the greatest, when putting him the top 10 is a stretch

Exactly, too many cats that dont dig deep into hip hop believe this dude is the alpha and omega. He's the greatest in terms of album sales and corny ass actors making spoken word albums of his bullsh!t ass 5th grade poetry LOL
Thats when you knew it had gotten out of control, when Danny Glover was reading his poetry on albums. Pac has his place in hip hop's history, but his antics have always greatly overshadow his abilities as an MC

Thats the kind of bull**** emotional arguments his followers use, because if they had to talk technical ability or something real for one second, all their arguments collapse.
