Some say that BMW decided to bring this model back to fight the Audi R8.

I tend to agree, only because I'm a VW/Audi fanboy.

Thought of BMW bringing this car? As of right now, the model seen above doesn't even have an interior designed yet, so it's far, far away from being realized.

im confused. why woulnd't an M1 be based off the current BMW 1-series coupes/convertables?

/\/\ No. M1 was a car that BMW had back in the day. Nothing like the 1-series. They will likely make an M from the 1 series, but it will have to be called something different becasue the M1 name has been in use since the early 80s
