When you do this, its easier for you to sell it, you can sell it for more and it makes it easier to be in command over the entire song, thats if you want to produce it 2. Artist will respect you more, and be open to hear your opinion of their positioning on the track.

isn't it hard to write a good hook though?
isn't it hard to write a good hook though?I don't want to say it's "easy" because I have yet to score a placement with a hook. But if you "think" too much when you writing a hook (these days anyway) you're doing it wrong.

To be honest, most of the songs I do have hooks in them. I've been writing hooks for a while and its easy because all kats want now is the bubble gum BS.

It depends for me, if they are local a lot of the times I help them develop there **** or start them just with the name of my song. but a lot of times I leave it up to the artist. Unless Im writing some R&B **** then I build it around a theme or a scratch hook.

Very true. I try to build the hook when I'm making the beat. I'll offer some advice on the direction of the hook sometimes but a lot of the artists I work with, I have a lot of faith in their ability to deliver a dope hook. But I do try to make sure that I have a hook in line just incase for most of my beats that are for that artist(s).
Good thread BTW.

I got groupies cuz I'm me, lol:king:
nah, it's residual effect from being in college and finally coming back to town. bytches you ain't seen in a minute be on you. your homeboys be dapping you and then the bytches that don't know you be like "this nigqa must be special if he gets love like this. How come I don't know him" gotcha bytch! lol
And I'm cool with every black frat on campus, I look mixed (aka good hair), southern bytches love nigqas like that.
Now I gotta either get some of these bytches to graduate and move to charlotte, or find somebody to go out with so I can get some bytches down here

I like to have a "suggestion" for a hook ready but I don't usually do them just because I RARELY hear the same thing from the same track that others do. Then again i'm a left handed weirdo

I keep hangin round these "Oh that's just Age" bytches. Ungrateful ass hoes!
All good though...I'm moving to Newark in 2 1/2 weeks so the new scene will help. The burbs are cool but these birds can be too pretentious.
so... like... timbo, scott storch, polow, just blaze... all them... are they just making beats? or are they writing lyrics now too?
i always figured all you need to be a successful producer in the industry is the ability to make good music... i thought the lyrics was up to the singer/ rapper/ song-writer...

Well, I know for a fact that swizz and Pharrel come up with the majority of the hooks/themes for the joints they produce. I can't speak on any other producers, though

Timbo and Polow also have a lot of input as to what a song's gonna sound like before the artist gets it (but that's partly because they have writers they already work with that help come up with concepts).

a producer and a beatmaker are not the samething...if u make beats give/sell them and u have no input or put no input u just made a beat, you didnt produce a thing...
I know timbo and polow have mad say in the direction of the songs...timbo says alot of the hooks and/or bridges on the songs he produces
polow...if u listen to(for example) the hooks in "Luv in the Club" and Keri Hilson"s "Energy" you hear the similarities in the structure of the hook...thats polow right there
Its not just writing hooks, its direction of the song, concepts, how you want the sond delivered, u should put as much thought into that ish as you put into a kick or a snar or etc,.
99% rappers dont know or understand WTF a producer is, and the lack of actual producers and the prevalence of rappers who dont take into account a producers ideas has hurt hiphop more than anything...u hear it in the lack of good songs...fuk lyrics, fuk content, fuk whatever else the hip hop heads complain about, its the songs...anybody from NY, thats yall mofoin problem
80% of (and I use the term loosely) "Producers" dont understand either
When u work with an artist it should be a collaboration, not a transaction, like I said u give a nig a beat and walk away u aint produce a damn thing, u made a beat whoopty do, rap got the game all fukd up
If I make a beat I have a song direction a hook in my head by the time I have a kick, clap, and high hat layed, I know I aint anybody but I'm saying, and its a big reason why I dont do alot of net collobarating, I hate having a song idea and sh!t, giving it to somebody coming back and hearing somethin on it and just bein disappointed in the song, it has happened...and it doesnt mean whatever I come up with nigs have to run with it, but take it in consideration and I'll take the artist ideas in consideration, and thats how good music is usually made
I got more to say but I'm ranting and most probably dont giv a fuk what I think on this subject so...
