So, I was listening to Only Built 4 Cuban Linx the other day and I realized that I don't really like the album as a whole. There a few tracks like Ice Cream, Incarcerated Scarfaces, and Verbal Intercourse, among others that I think are classic songs but I don't think the album is a classic itself.
Am I the only one who feels this way?

Couldn't agree more. Time to be mature people on this site and stop hating on others for having different opinions.
Yeah...I can't deny that OB4CL was a personal classic of mine. North Star (Jewelz) might be the best thing Raekwon's ever done...I listen to that track and it nearly brings me to tears (no homo).

nah i like OB4CL
but i get what the threadstarter is saying.
when i heard grodt i didnt think it was classic...just had some hits on it...
thats how most rap albums are made nowadays....they try to make hit songs....instead of making the album feel well put together and in sequence
i love concept albums.
i hate albums that sound like they made 50 songs and picked around 20 of the best

yea. isn't it renowned more for the precedent it set for the whole crack rap motif? i think nas took everything great about the purple tape and made a better album in iww. i also thnk ironman is better.

Yea, I believe so. Because I don't think dudes was really rapping about keys and bricks and shyt until Raekwon did it.

it's aight, i mean i wouldn't strip it of it's classic status or anything, but the album has never jumped out at me as some earth shaking piece of material that can't be disputed, it's got some boring, dated sounding sh1t on it like most albums
it's not perfect in the least, but it is "important" in the scope of hip hop, which is what gives it it's classic status, than the overall album just being that great of a quality track for track

i don't really agree with that...what songs do you think are dated or boring? i dont really see any fillers on there, everything is at least good and the classic material is definitely there
then obviously you're wack and your opinion on anything hiphop related should not be taken serious.

Good Observations.... The crazy thing is pretty much every song had production that was innovative for that time and now it all does sound pretty dated... But The Source gave it 5 mics when it dropped and Its been a top ten of mine for a hot minute...
1. Striving For Perfection(Top 10 intro Ever)
2. Knuckleheadz(Skippable:thumbsdow)
3. Knowledge God(:king:)
4. Criminology(Good track)
5. Incarcerated Scarfaces(:king::king::king:)
6. Rainy Dayz(Skippable but I've never heard a song for women be so street)
7. Guillotine (Swordz)(:ohmy:This is what Lyricism and Competition rap at its finest)
8. Can It Be All So Simple (Remix)(Worse then the original but that Sample makes it worthy of the ears)
9. Shark *****s (Biters)(:king: Classic Skit)
10. Ice Water(Skippable)
11. Glaciers Of Ice(:yes:)
12. Verbal Intercourse(:yes::yes::yes:)
13. Wisdom Body(:yes: Drunken Ghostface is GOAT)
14. Spot Rusherz Chef(:thumbsdow Skippable)
15. Ice Cream(:yes::yes:)
16. Wu-Gambinos (Classic:king:)
17. Heaven & Hell (Album Version)(:yes:Never heard a Song like this ever...Still haven't)
18. North Star (Jewels)(Decent way to close the story)
Thats about 14/18 for me... and im a stan for this album...

No, it got 4 1/2 mics when it dropped.
They gave it 5 mics 7 years later in their 150th issue though.

i don't know if i would call it fillers, i just don't think the entire album, track for track translates over to modern day seamlessly, none of the tracks are wack or "boring" in the context that they were released in, it's just that some material from those timelines don't carry over to the now as well, it's kinda hard to explain it
like...one of the albums from yesteryear that i can really just listen to and enjoy without thinking (this sounds old) is reachin by digable....it's just something about that album, that carries over to now, unlike a lot of sh1t from the 90's to me as a listener
