Put a young black hip hop head on some rock....I welcome everything from The Clash, to the RHCP to pennywise to korn to Blink 182....but no beatles , marilyn manson, or beach boys. And no crazy yelling sh*t....a track like Freak on A leash is the most yelling i should hear and thats not alot at all. I still remember when that came out, classic....school me. I prefer hard rock + alternative rock by the way.

Bad Religion - Against The Grain
Electric Light Orchestra - New World Record
Jimmy Hendrix - Are You Experienced?
Guns n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV

Most of them dudes careers are now done except for Bad Religion who's still doing it.
Guns N' Roses was supposed to realease "Chinese Democracy" but this sh*t is reaching "Detox" status and even worse...

Rage Against the Machine - The Battle of Los Angeles/Renegades
Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E/Make Yourself/Morning View
At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command
These records by no means are my favorite albums or anything like that.. Besides ATDI I no longer listen to any of this shiit.. It's just I was in exactly the same situation in high school and these albums got me interested in rock enough to delve deeper into the genre as a whole...1

01. Funkadelic - Maggot Brain (one of the best black rock albums ever, up there with any Hendrix stuff)
02. The Stooges - Fun House (every hip-hop fan should hear this, and they'll be able to appreciate the rawness of the production, and this album doesn't have to sink in, it kicks your ass immediately)
03. Talking Heads - Remain in Light (the dense production and afro-beat/funk influence will pull in a hip-hop head easily, plus this is just an amazing album)
04. Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill (most would recommend Aja, but this is my personal favorite, great lyrics, genius arrangements, crystal clear production, just perfect rock music.)
05. Radiohead - The Bends (This album contains many of the best written Radiohead songs, and would be great starting point to the band. Once you dig this, dip into OK Computer/Kid A)

after the 20th post i'm done, I hope ya'll gave me good sh*t

Zayus

Those are the two to check if you want to get into Bad Brains. They took me a little while to get into but songs like Banned In DC are classic.

Another two groups I can recommend are Faith No More & The Kills. Angel Dust & Midnight Boom are their best albums respectively. Faith No More (with Mike Patton) basically kicked off Nu-Metal, which I'll never forgive them for. But Angel Dust, if you can consider it Nu-Metal, is by far the best album the genre has to offer.

Hopefully with the recommendations in this thread (most have been pretty good) you'll expand your rock tastes. I don't mean any offense, I've just never heard of someone not liking the Beatles or 60's rock at all.

05-19-08, 09:43 PM
LOL, it's not that I dont like 60's rock, i'm just not trying to get into that....moreso 70s rock. But you know what....I feel it's my duty to take in some Beatles...name their best album

It aint even that I dont like the Beatles either...I remember when iw as like 7 and had Kazaa...me and my bros found like a 30 minute 60s and 70s mix of rock. I swear them shiits were catchy, still memorizze most of it, but cant find it anywhere.

Round round get around or something - beach boys
Young girl get outta my mind - dont remembber

alotta next stuff, but those i remember the most

If you're into heavier stuff, I'd recommend Abbey Road. I've never seen a general consensus of the best Beatles record though, people argue over everything from Rubber Soul through Abbey Road.

The Stooges- Fun House or Raw Power (Proto-punk. Also influenced the development of metal.)

The Doors- The Doors or Morrision Hotel (Jazz, rock, blues amalgam)

The Replacements- Tim (Post-punk. This album has a little something for everyone)

Dire Straits- Dire Straits (Jazz-rock)

Fugazi- 13 Songs (People call them emo, but I don't see it. These guys have a very unique sound).

Honorable mentions

Creedence Clearwater Revival- Cosmo's Factory (swamp rock)

The Jam- Setting Suns or Sound Affects (A rock band from the late seventies with a not-quite-punk edge. Their bass player is one of the best I've ever heard)

Guns n' Roses (They did a helluva lot more then "Welcome to the Jungle"...check out Use Your Illusion 1 and 2)
