Just from what I have seen and heard it feels like the A&R's from the record lables over there have over looked talent that is right in front of them. They opted to go South and now the NY hip hop scene isnt as powerful as it was once before. Out West most of you know how it went down so I ask the people in the East, u feel like you are getting blackballed?

The mainstream don't wanna hear dope lyrics (NY)

They wanna dance in the club and get crunk (south)

Well what is mainstream now is definitely a hell of alot different than what was mainstream in the 90's. Its always been about music you could dance too but hip hop today needs that lyricism, whether it comes from NY or not

Nah...
hip hop ain't considered a 'fad' no more and the A&R's know they can make money off of it now
so for the last....6 years as far as popularity goes, its ats pinacle...

Alot of you young white kids don't got any clue what it was like to listen to hip hop back in the day...

literally

when your the only person on your bus that listened to Doggystyle or a Wu Tang tape while everyone else was listening to nirvana and sh*t...being the one of the only handfull of kids that listened to hip hop out of your highschool, you have no clue what it was like back then lol.....it wasn't accepted like it is now...when you listened to hip hop back then it was a statement....now its a joke
when your parents tried their hardest to deter you away from listening to 'that music'
its accepted now, I see lil white kids wearing 'street gear' at early and earlier ages...
my parents now know who Snoop Dog, Method Man and 50 Cent is now....

you gotta understand....that was unthinkable back when I was younger...the world has FULLY accepted hip hop now...and hip hop talent wise is hurting cause of it

Nas,Busta, Fab, Hov and 50 did fine last time out. Diddy did poor for him but fine overall

just because the 'next in line' group like Pap and Saigon didnt make a splash isnt a reflection of a region. look at how many new jacks from the south flopped

Who are the older n!ggas though? Jay, Nas, and Busta? Fat Joe? The LOX? The only NY rappers that even really matter at all other than them are 50 and Dipset...if they all step aside now, NY is basically dead on a mainstream level except for maybe Fab...there is literally no one else...if the old heads go away, the only presense that NY will have are Fab and Fat Joe cameos in We the Best videos

Hip hop is acceppted now but is still somewhat of a fad and A&R's have been making money for a while off of it. I dont see where your going with all of this, I too listened to hip hop when everyone else was down with another genere but so what, what does that have to do with NY's hip hop scene?

u know what....its really to late now to tell the truth...that whole mixtape generation besides fab and g-unit and dipset have died off...so i kinda agree wit you...but where i dont agree is that fab has to be in a khaled video to be hot....aslong as Fab is straight right now i could care less..

Fab dropped one of the hottest mixtapes of the year so far but yet his album didnt receive the acclaim that it should have, even fellow NY'ers were saying it was trash when it was a banger

Yep...that was me. I remember those days perfectly.

It's still considered "dangerous" (although the sting has been taken out of it due to mainstream acceptance and ridicule), but the edge and rawness of what hip-hop was back in the day is gone.

I do agree though, that there needs to be more balance in the mainstream because that's where most people listen to the stuff from...but personally, I don't care anymore!!!! That was then, this is now. Fukk the mainstream, fukk the record labels, they took what we loved and drove it into the ground, and now with the internet we don't need them anymore!

I don't really care or even expect hip-hop to come back to what it was anymore. Call me a non-believer, but the purest music comes when it doesn't have to adhere to any preferences or discriminating tastes (I.E. mainstream catering). I realize after typing out alot of these "woe is me...hip-hop isn't what it was like when I was 14-18 posts" are boring and redundant. For all of the time heads complain about not having any good new artists to listen to, we're on the internet and we can pick and choose. I don't fukk with the radio anyway, or MTV or BET because I'm more towards 30 than 20 and have been done with that sh!t for almost a decade.

The model for success in music is changing, labels are becoming redundant. We don't need them anymore. Sure, our generation is still trying to hold on to what we loved and the way things were back in the day, and most in the industry are still enticed by making money and getting the label guap the old fashioned way as we've been conditioned to accept it as such since the label days of the 50s...but as soon as the artists realize they can get their music directly to the people and still make money, the better off we'll all be.

cause back then, the hip hop scene was different, and NY radio only cared about NY artists, hip hop wasn't as successfull as it is now, and there was no pressure to put other regions music on the station, they just focused on NY artists, up and coming artists, etc etc. Hot 97 broke alot of new artists...

i really truly think the east and west set a really high standard that just cant be duplicated nowadays....

dudes from the south from what i remember in the early late 80's early 90's where into go-go music..sorta like stripper music with a street apeal...you can kinda hear it from cats like 2 live crew poison clan..they where entertaining but lyricaly they was pure ass but they where sucessfull

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYgb44jCO5g ---compton diss :smh:

ghetto boys where the first act that was considered as a serious hiphop group from the south in nyc from what i remember then came outcast as far as mainstreem they where being played heavy in ny radio...

the thing that really hurting hiphop now is that theres no type of pride in the music thats being made..people are afraid to be diffrent becuase they wanna make money NOW,back then you had to be diffrent and come off clever to make money NOW,thats why you hear the same shyt being disposed over, and over again...and its not the south's fault..part of it is the new hiphop crowd who are easily influenced by the media on whats hot and dj's take'n payola money...

bottom line if people stop acting like f@ggots and try to at least listen to something diffrent thats at least hiphop realated you really need too shut the f#ck up and stop complaining...

the new killa priest album is dope as hell :smoker:

I may be the only one who feels NY doesn't deserve nothing back till we get our act together.

1. It's not the 90's anymore I love the music but you can not fake it. All that fake soul music don't rock.

2. You don't need to be or sound like Jay-z. There is no need for it.

3. Pre-written 16's over other people beat don't always make you hot. Mixtape circut is done to hell.

4. We need a sound stop trying to be for everyone and concentrate on ourself.

5. The crack game is not hitting like that anymore. People still do it but its far from what it once was.
