Seriously?

No.

Tony Allen, ?uestlove & Steve Gadd alone take him out of the all-time list. He might be a good drummer but the songs he plays on suck.

I think the thread starter is showing his age with this one.

No hate, but Travis Barker would be lucky to make a top 25 list.

Dave Grohl in the Nirvana days...

Good choice.

Grohl is very underrated IMO, not just for his drumming for in every aspect. Foot Fighters, QOTSA and Nirvana. A lot of people would be happy to be in just one of those, never mind all three.

Agreed. Dude knows how to write a song, from all angles. I thought his drumming was the best part of Nirvana.

idk i think he's sorta overrated based on SFTD...people were sayin that his drums made the album and while they're nice they're not thaaaaat nice and apparently he jacked a lot of the motifs from another song by another band.

I'd add Tony Williams and Elvin Jones to that last piece. Also, Max Roach and Art Blakey. On the current scene, I'd go for Eric Harland.

Now I'm not going to claim Ringo is the best drummer ever because he is not, but he is unquestionably my favorite. Why? Well, IMO he has the best fills that I've heard. That and the tone of his drums is the best I've ever heard (thats more of a credit to George Martin, but Ringo reaped the rewards).

I know Ringo calls "Rain" his best, but IMO it is this track:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQ6r7S3_cTE

For an example of Martin's brilliance, pay attention at 1:19...the sound is unbelievable
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qf2S7kKLtEQ

Personally, highly technical playing doesn't mean sh!t to me. I'll take the drumming on "I Am The Walrus" or "Tommorow Never Knows" over Moby **** any day (not a diss at Bonham, I'm just saying)

There is one drummer who is at his best when he is at his most technical, and that is Keith Moon but he's a completely different story......

best drummer of all time. I'm sure there are better ones out there but aave is the best I've heard.....

the tone of his drums is the best I've ever heard (thats more of a credit to George Martin, but Ringo reaped the rewards).
..

Maybe I was wrong with that statement, I just read this old George Martin quote:

"George Martin -- "Ringo always got and still gets a unique sound out of his drums, as sound as distinctive as his voice. ... Ringo gets a looser deeper sound out of his drums that is unique. ...This detailed attention to the tone of his drums is one of the reasons for Ringo's brilliance."

Either way, doesn't matter....he is still my favorite. I actually bought drums recently with the intention of eventually writing drum parts in Ringo's simplistic style. I don't even want to play technical sh!t, too much work for too little payoff IMO. Dave Matthews "Tripping Billies" came on the other day at work and I was just listening in awe at how great Carter Beuford's drumming was on that, but the song is horrible. Strawberry Fields Forever came on next and I had a spiritual moment:eek:
