been tryna get on my running grizzly recently so I scooped up some (fantastic) new running shoes that make my legs feel so much better while running.. this in turn gives me alot more stamina while running so I've been running about 4-5 days a week on a treadmill only a couple o miles a each time (usually like 2 runing 1 walking) after a week or so my left ankle has been sore.. not like muscle soreness.. its similar to when I took track in high school and my ankles and shins would be sore all the time because they were weak..

It s on my left leg which is weaker because I'm left handed so i've been thinking that ankle is just weak but its been sore for over two weeks now is not running all together the best option or should i just keep running and it'll eventually strengthen and fade away ?

sorry this is kinda long winded.. but has this ever happened to anyone ?

It is acute or chronic?

really only when I use it.. I can feel it whenever I walk on it.. especially if i havent in a while.. when I'm off my feet I generally don't feel anything.. it feels like my ankle just needs to strengthen.. I'm just wondering how long cuz its been like this for a bit

So there are strength & weight bearing issues. What about the range of motion?

WHATS YOUR WEIGHT? YOU MAY HAVE SHIN SPLINTS... I WOULD DO A LOW - NO IMPACT WORKOUT LIKE A BIKE OR A CROSS TRAINER... I KNOW IT SOUNDS A LITTLE RETARDED... BUT RUNNING CAN ACTUALLY BE BAD FOR YOU THE OLDER YOU GET...

I SEEN A SEGMENT ON REAL SPORTS ABOUT BOOMERITIS... I STARTED FEELING LIKE MY LIFE WAS SOON TO BE OVER...

I'm about 205 I'm hoping not.. I used to get shin splints when I ran in bad shoes.. but its stopped since i got new running shoes.. I used to run on the treadmill in forces and dunks and whatnot.. I'm hoping i didn't do any damage doing that :(

yea I've heard that.. I'm hoping it just fades away I've never been a fan of running but I'm getting more into and would like to continue pain free

you should probably see a doctor for medical advice, that way you know your not going to pay for it down the road.

You have shin splints homey. They hurt like a ***** huh? I know the feeling. I've had it most my highschool athletic career...

That is until I finally figured out what the deal was....

(this is long but may be helpful)

You see, when I used to run back then I would naturally land heal first, then balls of my feet and push off. I ran like this whenever I wasn't full out sprinting. Shin splints would be a pain in the ass from track practices, not bad at all for football (mostly on my toes as a RB). I don't know the technicalities of it, but this is one of the main reasons why I got shin splints and general pain in that area. Those shin muscles weren't conditioned as they should be if I was running properly: on the balls of my feet.

So I took it upon myself to change up. I forced myself to run on the balls of my feet no matter what speed. This was a painful process in the beginning as I would still get shin splints just off the basis of those muscles "lacking." But you know what they say "sometimes its darkest before dawn". To help the conditioning process go by faster I focused heavily on jump rope. After two weeks I was noticeably making progress and after a month I was shin splint free.

Thats my story.

Self discipline is key. Listen to your body. Theres really no way to heal shin splints other than time. Don't push yourself TOO hard cuz you're just damaging yourself.

poke around on the internet a little bit.. i belong to the healia community (http://communities.healia.com), where you can ask medical professionals and other people questions about what you're going through. also has a pretty good search engine if you ever wanted to do research on your own.

I notice that when I run in old shoes, they are much more comfortable. like for the longest I had some old beat up air max, and they were mad comfortable to run in. and I had long since bought some new air max, but I coudln't run in them cuz they weren't comfortable enough due to being new so I would keep running in the old ones til they got holes in the bottoms and I was forced to use the new ones. after putting the new ones on, I got blisters for about 2 weeks straight tryin to run in them til they were finally broken in. unfortunately those are worn out now, and I need new ones. and I don't look foward to running in new shoes again.
