The BASE GTR (non-vspec) just did a 7 min 29 second lap at the N-ring, which is even faster than the ZR1  . The Vspec is gonna bring a world of hurt down on the Vette.

I know, I saw that announcement today.
Mind boggling how intense that car is. I think Chevy should've put a bit more into the ZR1.

They need to work on suspension, theres no reason why the Vette should still be using leaf springs.
I think the ZR1 will be a great street racing car, something that will pretty much destroy people from a roll, especially when people start modding them and swapping out charger pulleys.

this isnt the regular Vette its a special edition super car
still I always felt the '00 Vettes were seriously underrated, high performance cars that performed like cars that cost twice as much

It's still using leaf springs, which was outdated about 25 years ago.

But the same could be said for pushrod engines.
I think that the best part of the Vette is that Chevy doesn't shove technology down the driver's throat.

In terms of handling, it's clearly falling behind though. You can get away with having pushrods cause the motors are just huge and make up for a lack of tech with sheer brute power, when it comes to suspension they are way behind.

True, I'll give you that much.
Suspension is a tough call. The torsion beam on my GTI can still put it down nicely. However, I think it depends on the other dynamics of the car. My car's short wheelbase and light weight work well for the torsion, even if only 3 wheels are on the ground at once. :ucku:

Behind? Not quite. The leaf springs still work well. The magnetic suspension pretty much eradicates all of the downsides. They'll move away from it next generation. If the Corvette has an old suspension design, then the Porsche 911s are just as bad.
You should read about the development of the C5/C6 suspension. It's actually pretty advanced. You can lower the car and adjust nearly everything with just some hand tools.
About the engines, don't get me started. The Chevy small-block might be the most versatile engine ever. It's peaking at the right time.
