View Full Version : Real Talk: My Pecs Will Not Grow...
When at my peak of workin out like a year ago, I was liftin(heavy).
For my chest my routine was 2 times a week
My workout was roughly
Bench Press(Barbell): 140x3x8,130x3x8,120x3x8
Incline Dumbell Press: 130x3x8,120x3x8,110x3x8
Dumbell Fly's: 100x3x8,90x3x8,80x3x8
150-200 grams protein a day. Vegetables, Water.. The works, snacks nuts and sh!t.
I could lift heavy(dumbell, barbell) but i did not get defined pecs(top and middle, no bottom).
What the fukk.

Out of everything one needs to commit to to enhance their pectorial muscle building regimen; there is one technique that triumphs all...
The almighty quintessential PUSH-UP (no, not the Flintstone quinsiquently frozen sherbert desert).
I'm telling you fam... this little exercise routine is a superb way of developing protruding chest meat that is sure to command outstanding presence in every room you enter. Real talk.
A lot of people tend to overlook this method. Why? A fella ain't know. But it's convenient, doesn't require any weights and you can perform it anywhere, anytime. Just be sure that you are executing the proper push-up, but the effectivity is not only in technique, but in the repititions as well.
Every night, before i hit the sack, i'm staring at my floor like it's a girl who done turned me down on a date. And the longer I look at it, the more infuriated i become... which allows me to commence to some vigorous push-up training sessions.
*positions body towards carpet*
"What? I thought we already had this weekend scheduled... now you wanna go eat dinner with your ex? He took custody of your chulren and still drives your car on the weekends! OH NO YOU DID'ENT!!!"
And immediately, as i start getting simulataneously amped and agitiated, i'm pushing away like i had existentarious amounts of yayo in my socks.
Ya naw fukkin' mean?!?!?!
Because i've dealt with so many rejections...
In transpositin, i've got pecs that are just way too big for my chestorial region.
*shrugs*
Fukk it... my shirts fit better and breezys are nowadays, more hesitant to treat my dates like a box of Kelloggs cereal...
NO FLAKIN'!!!
...
I can do like 60 pushups in a row and still have no pecs .:thumbsdow
I think it's genetic. People in my family just don't build muscle fast at all.

Problem I instantly see is you're going down in weight as you go set to set. In simplest terms, muscle growth is your body adjusting to handle weight. If you're going DOWN in weight as your go along how is that stimulating growth?
Also you wont have a big chest pushing those weights. My chest started noticeably sticking out when I approached 200lbs. This is a genetics thing. Everyone's different. Just keep at it.
I also find it amazing how you DB incline 65's, DB fly 50's, but can only Barbell bench with a 45 and a 2 1/2 on each side.

my chest didnt start gettin big til i started benching over 200lbs too.
spliff pretty much outlined your problem. you should stick to 2 or 3 heavy sets, between 5-8 reps. every week you need to force yourself to increase the weight, or reps. you might have to start a few lbs lighter then your potential, but its the best way to break thru stalled progress.
your chest wont grow unless you get stronger. you also may need to eat more protein, or increase your caloric intake. make sure you're getting carbs post work out, as well.
i didnt right the correct weights that i was liftin but basically i could bench max 210 minus the bar and i was doing about dumbell pressing bout the same.
i been readin up and creating a new routine. i'll give it 12 weeks. but im bout to go hard. no homo

yep.... my guy suffers from bird chest-itis as well..no matter how hard hard you lift\diet etc ..it's genetic. you could go the extreme route and get pec implants. that just seems wierd to me tho.

remember to work the entire body... especially the back, the core, and the legs.
it might sound crazy but an all around body workout will help all of your muscles grow stronger.
and switch up your routines... not just your lifting routines but your push up routine as well (push ups to supplement any routine should be a no brainer)... never let your muscle groups get comfortable with an exercise.
and don't forget to stretch proper.

140 is not heavy fam. You should have sticked to it and try to reach at least 180. I used to think I was lifting/pushing a lot too, but now that I think about it I realize I fukking wasnt.

its all relative. i remember when i was in high school, i was just like "if i could just do sets w/ 135 i'll be straight. that way i wont be embarassed at the gym" and i was kinda right.
in college i was like, "damn if i could just max out at 225 i'll officially be strong"
now i'm like, "i need to bench 300, squat 400, and deadlift 450 by the end of this year or imma be pissed"

I reposted my avi for referrence.
A lot of people have the misconception that "MORE WEIGHTS EQUATES TO BIGGER PECS."
Yes and no. Geneticism has a lot to do with the manufacturing of such a physical attribute, but if you're naturally brolic or fat, you can transition that meat/cellulite into lean, outstanding chest muscle. Real talk, outlined with no chalk.
Like i stated previous, i acquired my tits through, although far from vigorous, consistent push-up regimens. I swear by this. Just stay on the routine, daily basis-status, and 20-30 a night is all you need.
My upper torso/chest region measure 48 inches in diameter... exclusively built via no weights and me getting my yolk on facing the ground - that's it.
Make sure you're eating copiacious levels of low-fat protein and complex carbohydrates. Those are the essential tools for chesticular development.
But like i said...
The almighty push-up, fam. It's all you need to feed your appetite for extreme aesthetic machismo (especially if you're the type who thinks a man is revered or defined by his gargantuan stature - artificially said).
Anywho... get into gear, pooh bear.
And PUSH it to the limit.

To thread starter- As you might (or not) know the pectorial muscle is just like any other muscle group. For it to grow it needs to be shocked, stimulated, fed, rested and shocked/pounded again. But as any intelligent bodybuilder would do is to switch up your chest routine/scheme often so that your muscles don't get "stagnant" with one routine.
In my case, before I started seeing big improvements in my chest I used to do mostly just flat bench work and very little incline bench pressing. that is flat bench press, dumbell press and flat bench flys. But after a year and a bit I switched to doing mostly inclined bench pressing, inclined flys and incline DB press and after a few months my chest just started growing at a good rate and pace. Of course, coupled with a solid diet, and eating enough calories to grow bigger. And also doing alot more other compound lifts such as deadlift, squat and overhead pressing helped me grow a great deal.
So keep it simple, switch it up, compound lifts, eat enough calories to get big and have a solid(clean for the most part) diet.

haha word, true story. still, think when you used to think 135 was heavy, **** must be sounding funny right now.
it's all relative yeah, that was my point exactly. it's dumb to stop because you lift/push "heavy" and are not satisfied with the results. Give it two months and your definition of "heavy" will be different. so like said you need to stick to it. results come with patience...
