when NYC was on top they was selfish. To this day puffy has never signed a west coast artist.Neither has Jay-z.At least cashmoney signed the dog pound and g malone and mack 10.Master P signed a few west coast acts. The east coast is gettin exactly what it deserves. When they was on top they didnt play music from any other region now they dj's wont even play they own music.I hope they starve 2 death.LMAO @ Maino tryna be a honorary grand hustle artist. All new Nyc rappers needs a southern sponser 2 sell records.

It's this attitude by Maino and Ed Lover which is the reason why NYC stays losing. You can say what you want about down south mainstream rap music (I live in ATL and don't care for a lot of it), but down south rappers don't wait for an Outkast or a Goodie Mob or a Scarface or a Luke to give them anything. They study the business and come in prepared with their own imprint and artists and producers, which is probably why record companies are more willing to work with them. Down south artists break their own records in clubs. Maino lives in NYC so all he or any other NYC aspiring rap artist has to do is shop their demos, go the industry events and network...I mean all the resources are right in their backyard. This whole "these old heads need to move outta the way" attitude is stupid. You want Nas and Jay-Z and Mobb Deep and Wu-Tang and Busta outta here...then move them outta here like they did with the 80's rappers. Make some banging music so that there's a demand for your music instead of getting on blogs and on radio complaining about why nobody wants to listen to your crap. Maino's an alright artist but if him and Rakim were to drop on the same day, I'd be more interested in Rakim's album.

Exactly and when they start making songs instead of it being Shoot em up bang bang then people will take them seriously. In my Opinion he is just a mixtape rapper. How many time are u gonna shoot, stab, rob someone and sell drugs on record? The reason NY rap aint popping is because the new NY rappers are just Mixtape rappers

The south talks about cars, rims, women, drugs, drinks, hustlin too... Don't make this a NY thing...
And the thing is that NY DJ's don't DJ no more... They got a list to abide too... They ain't playing all the shyt they think is sick like Stretch Armstrong back in the day... Like my man Q-Tip said anyway... "Industry Rule # 4,080, record company people are shady..." It ain't about shyt but the money anymore... Nevermind the music actually being good nowadays...

That's just it though. That's MANIO and ED LOVER. Not every other rapper from New York. That's problem with this whole arguement. You hear one rapper or radio personality say these opinions, then you think every rapper from NY or NYC feels that way. When they don't. Just like every rapper in NY is not beefing or have problems with each other. Yes, NY still produces great music. Those artist just don't get the spotlight. Stop thinking that every NY rapper is a Maino, Papoose, or KRS. No they're not. Camp Lo is one example of that. They rep the Bronx. Yet, they don't say a thing. They do their music, they're style and keep it moving.
Maybe, if the NEW Southern cats stop acting like all the South does is dance (because they don't), then you'd get the respect you want. You can't get mad at who you have representing you. Stop fronting like y'all are so united. No you're not. Stop fronting like y'all don't beef like that down there. Yes you do. Stop acting like the South is selling all these records. No they're not. Accoring to the charts and sound scan, y'all so religously abide by. Before the hater word comes my way, I'm just stating the truth. On top of that, I'm very familiar with down bottom, because my pops happens to be from the South (New Orleans). I'm good down there, so I know.
Bottom line is, you guys are so busy seperating YOURSELVES. Too busy closing your ears. Based on this generalized idea, that there's all this hate up top for y'all. When it ain't. You guys miss out on great music, because you're too busy separating yourselves over nothing. Over something we don't even own anymore. We don't own Hip Hop no more. Corporate America does.

I know where he's coming from and it's true but there's a few indiscrepencies.
1. NY artists are all the same. What seperates Joel Ortiz's content from, saigon, or papoose? think of all their differences and similarities. the only real difference is they physically aren't the same people but they rapping about the same thing. Uncle murda & serious jones, what makes them different? NY ran the whole industry when they had a diverse set of artists, now everybody is the same type of person. remember when ny rap was public enemy, de la soul, rakim, kool g rap, kid 'n play & EPMD? right there u have 6 different personalities, 6 artists whose material for the most part is different content but they all from new york.
2. Maino talks about how the guy wanted to play the south version...WHY IS THERE A SOUTH VERSION? Nas - "the south is killing hip-hop" then he drops a track with bravehearts and lil' jon. Mobb Deep - "The south is killing hip-hop" then THEY do a song with lil' jon. 50 Cent - "Them south n!ggaz is weak" then he adds young buck to the click. Notice a trend? If u really want NY behind u, do ABSOLUTELY NO SONGS that appeal to the south, and if they try and shelf ur sh!t, put them on blast and give the NY deejays the record.
I'm sick of n!ggaz talking & not doing what needs to be done.

Maino is not the only rapper I've heard this from and Ed Lover isn't the only hip-hop personality I've heard that made that statement. And your argument doesn't make any sense whatsover. I never said the South was unified or was selling a bunch of records. I said the record companies are more willing to work with southern artists because of what they bring to the table. As far as getting the respect the South deserves...again I don't know what the hell you're talking about 'cause that has nothing to do with my argument that I made...LOL. Were you replying to my argument or somebody else's. 'Cause I could give a damn what in New Yorker thinks about southern music. I'm just saying quit complaining and get on your grind like southern artists do. At the same time, I'm also saying that I don't care for the majority of MAINSTREAM southern music. All that dancing around like buffoons nonsense I'm not into, and that's what's being represented the majority of the time by southern artists in the mainstream. Now the southern underground scene is great. And a lot of today's NYC rappers are nothing more than mixtape rappers. The only rappers that I care to hear from NYC are AC, Trife Da God, Saigon, and Papoose. So when I hear rappers like Maino make these types of statements I just can't help but shake my head.

and another thing...
Maino got some nerve asking (BEGGING) NYC for support, when he spent the bulk of his "mixtape career" robbing and jacking NYC rappers for thier jewelry.
so he's basically the WRONG RAPPER for NYC to throw it's support by, because he's a selfish publicity wanting rapper , who will do anything to make a name for himself, even HE DON'T GIVE A FLYING FUKK ABOUT NEW YORK.
He's just using this as propaganda for his own campaign, which is corny if you ask me, that single "HI HATER" just takes the best elements of southern rap, i.e (catchy hook, club friendly beat, simple subject matter) and mixes it with a little east coast swag and slang, and thier you have it, he ASSUMES he has a hit.
it's alright, but it pales in comparison to what Wayne, Jeezy and every other southern mc has done to master the politics of radio and record sales.
NYC greatest enemy is ITSELF, they have lost thier identity, and a sense of accountability, Maino and all these hoe ass ultra violent mixtape rappers wanna blame everybody but themselves as to why they are not respected on the NATIONAL LEVEL, first of all none of them are unique, thier subject matter as someone said earlier is basically shoot em up, move them bricks subject matter, and they have yet to innovate something that will take NYC beyond the great influence of B.I.G
So till then NYC will keep making stagnant music, and the deejays will have no choice but to push artists such as LUPE, WAYNE and others who bring something different to the table.

04-26-08, 11:04 AM
Hey NY....I know you're listening.
Try this for a change: try innovating.
I know it sounds difficult and scary, but give it a shot. How are you gonna continue to push the same product from the late 90's and expect it to pop nationwide? Yall release the same clicky-clack, gunclap rap constantly and wonder why your fanbase dwindles. The south may not rule the airwaves with the most lyrical content, but you know what? They say it in a way YOU don't and over some fun and entertaining beats. You morons are too busy beefing in your own city to figure it out.

I didn't say Maino was the only rapper, nor was Ed Lover the only radio personality. But, what I'm saying is, it's those specific people. Not the entire NYC. Which is what you guys seem to apply. What I'm trying to get you to see, is that just because these select people feel that way, doesn't mean "New York City" feels that way.
I'm saying, not everybody is hating and crying up there. Oh, and let's keep it honest. These labels aren't signing these young Southern cats, because of what they bring to the table. They're sigining them because they are the trend right now. It's an easy buck. When something else hot comes along, they'll jump on that too. If conscious rap started selling again, they'd jump on that too.
As far as the rest of the saying goes, I wasn't just speaking to you. I was speaking in general for the most part.

NY stay crying..And as long as n!ggas like ED Lover/Maino stay with that attidtude that they had in the video they will NEVER come back..str8 up..I dotn think these dumb NY n!ggas realise that as long as they stay tryna down the South they will never make it..The South is here to stay, prolly not as in control as they are now, but they will always have a known presence from here on out..NY is big but not that big..they cant just ignore and diss a whole region of the U.S. that also happens to be in control of the rap game rite now and still think they can "make it".. to tell you the truth out side of just there bad attitudes, they really jsut dont any real artist to get hyped over honestly..The Paps,Sais, and Jae Millzs of NY arent anything special, there really jsut mirrors of eact other..Even though I do fuxx with Grafh hard, He just doesnt have that mainstream potential..

NY always been that way to other regions, but when they were that way before at least they had to music to back up there arrogance, now they don't even have the music or even the MC's I mean, the vets need to groom these young dudes or its no place for NY. I mean I don't care to much for what the south is doing but at least they have unity, even Fat Joe see that and he ran down south and neglected the BX. NY needs to be exciting again like 98 99 more collabos and shyt, or you need an artist to flood the game like X did when he first dropped, because the mixtape game dead, and NY artists need to stop relaying on that and just make quality music, stop worrying about the south or even the radio, just spit

i hate the fact that certain new (yes, new) rappers such as Maino,Tru Life, etc Front like theyve put in SOO so much work in for soo many years, that theyre deserving of the spotlight n fame. They think just cause they banged out 10,15,20 mixtapes..that it should now be handed to them in a handbasket, straight Up.
(and im a NY hiphop head til I die,,ALLL I listen to..But jst get aggrivated from hearing all those post2000 rappers thinking that theyve put in 20 yrs of hardWork and its fckd up that they havent got their shine yet..(Its become like the NBA,out of 10million aspiring wannaBe Pro ballers,,maybe a handful will make it..straightUp...NOTHING is automatic) You dont hear nggaz like Skrewball n Infamous mobb n many other dudes yappin all upset cause theyre spotlight never came..(But they are happy wit what theyve done, despite radio spins and the numbers..)

the music industry is soo fckd up rightnow (internet,,free music) that the labels arent dishing out as much loot on pressing and releasing albums anymore,,thus theyre concentrating on 'sure things',(ie...anything from the south,,its selling i guess)..so theyre not allocating nearly as much cake aside for the 'hiphop divisions' of their labels, instead just spending on the hot fad ishh of the moment..(but them indie labels are a better place to get ur shtt released,if you want it out there in a reasonable timeFrame)

supporting each other wont mean shyt if you dont have a hot record. busta rhymes got behind papoose and even helped him get his deal. Papoose got dropped though cause the label didnt belive in papoose. I heard maino's single and that joint is a recycled beat and it aint all that. trust me if somethin is hot dj's are gonna play it. Mims is the last new New York rapper to have a hit. "this is why i'm hot" Now he may have been a one hit wonder but at least he made a hit record
