in his case, the bad outweighs the good. I mean, his music is nice, but he's basically the father of the dance craze emcees like soulja boy and'em. Don't get me wrong, I still like his music but his super-success opened doors for those that take away from the quality of the music!

if he left it at his homies he'd probably be alright but he had half the hood or more on the payroll, no need for it unless you're an idiot. where are these people now? back on the streets probably still waiting for someone else to give them a ****load of moey for no reason. if you wanna give your boys a job, thats all good but don't just be handing out stupid amounts of cash & then wonder why you're broke that's stupid.
as for the music, it was cool but it hasn't really held up well in time, no one really goes around jamming Pumps & A Bump & since when was Hip Hop all one way? it was never JUST fun or JUST serious it's always been a mixture of everything.

mack hit on a good point. Hammer ain't got no music that's listenable today (on a serious level, not shiit played at cookouts for novelty value). nobody listens to his wack ass albums, they're remembered for their success on the charts. and the only lasting impression he left on hip hop is poisonous.

how does the bad outweigh the good? of course he contributed negatively to the game, but how does opening the doors for rappers to become entrepreneurs not outweigh being a polarized/time frame specific artist?
dude is a pioneer, you don't hear n1ggas listening to biz markee now a days either but does he not have a place in hip hop history?

what in the fucck did c&c do to influence a whole generation of rappers who became BRAND NAMES? n1ggas like puffy, jay, luda, 50, pretty much anybody that has been successful in rap music got that rap hustle blueprint from MC hammer
dude is an ENTERTAINER, one of the MOST IMPORTANT things IMO, to tally up when feeling out a rappers legacy is performance/stage presence, and hammer could arguably be TOP 5 in that catagory alone, he was the michael jackson (performance wise) of hip hop
these n1ggas brag and WISH to go mutli plat...he was one of the first ever to do 3x plat, endorsements, and rappers getting their hands on all kinds of LEGIT money (which makes us look a hell of a lot better as a culture) would not be possible without hammers input
and as weak as he was technically...his music wasn't "wack", even if it's DATED, for that moment in time of popular culture, hammer was that n1gga, you got to respect that, he don't gotta make no top 10-20 lists or even be considered a great rapper by anybody, but he has made his mark on this game, he is a pioneer and a legend in his own right

Dude Hammer's talent was dancing, and if he actually did it himself, producing. His rapping was average at best. He made it harder for true talent to be recognized in lieu of marketing an image which creates a drop in quality of the music. My alliance is with the music, not the music business. Unfortunately I'm not a cut throat capitalist like most of y'all, so n!ggaz don't get my respect selling out MY culture just so they can make money that I'm never gonna see or that's never gonna benefit my people (whether it's my biological family or extended) in the long run.

dude ur missing the point. Hammer should have just been the biggest dancer in everyone's video for a couple of years and his career should've been done. He has no talent as an eMCee. His success means the drop in the quality of rapping. I know Hip-Hop isn't meant to be serious, but where the quality of the art is concerned, he set us back. He made it formulaic making it hard for those with true talent who have convictions for their art. They are being overlooked for any sellout willing to do anything for a buck. Is that a good thing?

Dude, your giving hammer props for being on level with KRS-One, when the reality is his rap talent is on par with Big Daddy Kane's Dancers. there was great dance music before hammer and after him, so it's not like he started the dance craze or something. Frankly, kid 'n play represent the epitome of a rapper and dancer combo more than hammer because they rapped as good as the rappers that couldn't dance.

it ain't about being a capitalist or whatever the fucck you talking about....if you feel proud when you see ludacris or a jay-z making a move that in the long run benefits hip hops image, you can thank hammer for opening up the avenue for rappers to not just be slaves to record companies
hammer was an entertainer, yea yea yea he did this and that (as if he was making n1ggas make bad music or something), but to act as if his presence in hip hop history is insignificant is insane, will smith did the same sh1t and every time the n1gga makes a movie, hip hop wants to take credit for it
hammer is a legend man, whether or not you're against making money, you can't not acknowledge the impact he's had on the game and generations of artists that took their careers beyond making money for jewish record execs
nobody had to follow hammer, but they did, for better or for worse, n1ggas coulda stayed on their path, hammer came and went...n1ggas wanted to see some of that paper, the same paper/endorsements and accolades that these rappers make whole careers out of bragging about now

Let me give you the ultimate metaphor for where I'm coming from. This sh!t is gonna be legendary.
Think of music like a woman that you monogamously have sex with. So think of it this way, when you have sex, it's like listening to music, and how good the sex is is like the quality of it. So good sex is represented by proven quality artist like run dmc, rakim, big daddy kane all the way to people like the roots, nas, jay-z, biggie, outkast. Just, you know, people that are critical acclaimed and respected. so their classics are like orgasms. then you have artists that have sold, but really aren't quality eMCees, but can put together a good song in the studio like puffy, master p, HAMMER, vanilla ice. they have orgasms too because they've sold millions of records. Now the difference in the orgasms is Nas' classic is a real orgasm, while master p's classics seem good, but the b!tch was faking it. now understand, both orgasms appear real to you, but only she'll never admit she's faking it. So in the end, in the act of making love, when she appears to have the orgasm it'll have the same affect, even if at the time u question it because her body is going through the same motions and at the end of the day, you're body's gonna respond at that carnal moment, in that carnal act. So that really just puts the orgasms on par in a sense but not in another. (That's the part that fools people).
Now when you look at their practice of kama sutra with you (ie. the eMCee artform, you know the artform that those that listen to a lot of old school and underground hip-hop care about, those that don't really care about a n!gger getting his PAPER, as we do in him MAKING A CLASSIC PIECE OF MUSICAL ARTWORK THAT HE SHOULD BE RESPECTED FOR. FOR THE REST OF THE DAYS THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO ENJOY IT!), a girl for an artist like NAS who actually CARES about being innovative in the art of eMCeeing is like the girl that is truly trying to master kama sutra, while the girl for an artist like HAMMER, who is just trying to eat, and really cares nothing for moving forward the art of eMCeeing, he's just trying to be as rich as possible, and is at least willing to help out put other wack rappers on, like how 50 Cent and Jay-Z did), is like the girl that is just learning the latest kama sutra move just enough so she can execute the move, and really has no inner love for what it means, she is only doing it because she respects you as a man who pays the bills, and really doesn't care more for who you are, like nas' girl? AND she's out the door the minute you broke!
Chew on that. :smoker: :smoker:  :king:

As A Rapper, Not as an emcee. He can dance good and sh!t, but as a rapper he wack! But you could be wack and still sound good on a good beat. that's why there's so many of us (myself included) tryin'a do it. It's no different than a religion that prays. But the people that pray the best become priests and bishops and whatnot and set trends within the culture. Our problem is we got to many of them going in to get paid, a lot of child molesters, and a lot of people willing to do things to make money when the whole point in being a preacher is to move people forward in a positive way, not just to pay erryone off with mediocrity. :smoker:

He was wack as fukk then and he is still now. Put it in perspective hammer was out when Ice Cube, Chuck D, KRS 1, BDKane, Rakim, NWA and other real legends were hot - being blasted in whips and in the clubs. I guess you never heard of run dmc, ll cool j, eazy-e or nwa, kurtis blow, epmd, sugarhill gang or dj jazzy jeff & the fresh prince all regular gold and platinum artists at the time, and the music was still early in development along with the fact that they went against the grain of the system. Hip-hop was not accepted, mtv didn't play any hip-hop videos till run dmc did the track with aerosmith, and they had already gone platinum or gold, if I'm not mistaken. Ruthless records was doing what wu-tang was with albums from nwa, jj fad, doc & eazy-e all going gold and platinum in no time. Really only artists like michael jackson and madonna were doing hammer-type numbers in the industry and they built their careers from ground up in music that was widely accepted and well aged within the industry. It's not like people never heard of music before hip-hop, so it was gonna take a while for the media to give people a chance to get used to it. Hammer and Vanilla Ice happened to be clones of kid 'n play & big daddy kane in terms of being dancing rappers, but they had the skills of young mc, who was getting his sh!t written by tone loc. Young MC was successful but not as respected, but he was the experiment with the formula. Clean image, subject matter that lacked racial bias, he had the music to get the people on the dance floor. They just added the ability to dance to that formula (in vanilla ice's case they also added the white appeal) and there you have MC Hammer & Vanilla Ice. Products of the industry. Remember that track Rico Suave? Remember How he was able to bust just after Vanilla Ice AND he danced too? U gonna make him a legend too? marky mark? C&C Music factory? By-Products of Hammer & Ice.
