SOHH Forums/Project Covo members:



There have been recent reports of spyware infecting computers of members of the SoHH Forums/Project Covo. We appreciate your diligence in keep us informed and thank you for patience as we investigated this issue. We also apologize for any inconvenience you’ve experienced.



Several users have complained that a spyware program called "Antivirus 2009" has recently appeared on their personal computer after visiting SOHH Forums/Project Covo. Antivirus 2009 is a new rogue anti-spyware program. It is also a clone of Antivirus 2008 - also a rogue, and one that's produced more clones than any other recently. The list of these clones is long: System Antivirus 2008, Ultimate Antivirus 2008, Vista Antivirus 2008, XP Antivirus 2008 etc. Antivirus 2009 is a scam and should be treated as such: do NOT download or buy it and block its homepage.


We have confirmed this rogue program is NOT being distributed by or coming from SOHH Forums/Project Covo servers. If it were, all members would be affected as opposed to the small sample who have alerted us to this issue. Our suspicion is that this rogue program has surreptitiously attached itself to the computers of some SOHH forum/Project Covo members in the normal course of their internet browsing outside of the SoHH Forums/Project Covo. When they arrive at SoHH Forums/Project Covo, the rogue program is somehow being activated.



The best solution to this issue is to download an antivirus program and also an antispyware program for your computer. One great product is Google Pack. Google Pack comes with Spyware Doctor and Norton Security Scan, both of which can be used together to remove these harmful programs from your computer. You can find this here: http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html . Ad-Aware 2008 Free (which you can find here: http://www.lavasoft.com <http://www.lavasoft.com/> ) and Avast Home Edition which you can find here: (http://www.avast.com <http://www.avast.com/> ) are two other options. All of these programs can be downloaded for FREE from these sites.



We will continue to be watchful over this situation to ensure it is properly managed. Additionally, as a matter of prudence, we have taken precautionary measures to eliminate future threats by banning all unauthorized ads coming from 3rd party ad networks.
